Job Description

The Security Consultant (SC) will:
  • Deliver vulnerability analysis and penetration testing services in line with approved processes.
  • Provide clients with relevant and timely advice relating to identified findings and recommendations.
  • Perform conclusive, impact research on security vulnerabilities and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with team members to share security knowledge.
  • Utilise their existing strong technical skills and experience to develop a strategic and pragmatic view of enterprise security.
  • Work on multiple different projects providing exposure to different industries.
Through exposure to clients and peers, Security Consultants will further develop their existing proficiency in written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to articulate complex technical issues to business and technology contacts alike.
They must be proficient with supporting multiple stakeholders and providing quick responses and timely follow up to their needs and inquiries. The SC must be a quick learner and have the natural ability to think on their feet in high pressure situations providing technical details acting as an industry subject matter expert.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Deliver general security assessment projects, including infrastructure, web and mobile applications and thick client application assessments.
  • Perform a variety of other security assessment including wireless technologies, telephony, industrial control systems (ICS), Internet of Things (IoT), physical penetration testing and social engineering.
  • Candidates will become competent in working with A&O IT Groups infrastructure, technical tools, systems, and methodologies to enable the high-quality delivery of client and internal projects.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of emerging technologies, legislation, and standards in the cyber security sector, and help shape the industry through active participation.
  • Contribute to and participate fully in technical discussions and service developments within A&O IT Group.
  • Promote the A&O IT Group brand and skills within the local, international, and online communities.
  • Develop new and existing client relationships for the mutual benefit of A&O IT Group and its clients.
  • Engage in pre-sales activities to increase A&O IT Groups market penetration into new clients and sectors.
  • Proactively contribute to the development and maintenance of A&O IT Groups tools, systems, and documentation.
  • Deliver a range of security consulting services to A&O IT Groups clients based in the UK and overseas, both remotely and on-site, as part of a team and as project leader.
  • Engage in pre-sales activities to increase A&O IT Groups market penetration into new clients and sectors.
  • Enhance the reputation of A&O IT Group within its clients, together with the Information Security and wider technical communities.
  • Proactively contribute to the development and maintenance of A&O IT Groups tools, systems, and documentation.
  • Manage the relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Report and escalate to management as needed.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven ability to deliver general security assessment projects, including infrastructure, web, mobile and thick client applications.
  • Scientific, engineering or technical bachelors degree or equivalent or recognised IT qualification / certification and experience.
  • Has worked in a client facing consultative environment (either with internal or external customers).
  • Strong prioritisation skills and ability to manage own workload.
  • Knowledge of security assessment and audit tools, techniques, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Experience of other commercial and open-source security tools (e.g., Firewalls, IPS, anti-malware).
  • Knowledge of network protocols and services (e.g., OSI model, IP networking, TCP/UDP familiarity, HTTP, SMTP).
  • Working knowledge of Windows and POSIX based operating systems.
  • Basic programming experience (e.g., Python, Shell, Assembly, Java, .NET, C++)
  • Familiarity with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, project management tools).
  • Understanding of cryptographic concepts and technologies.
DESIRABLE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proactive, action orientated and anticipates potential outcomes.
  • Retains objectivity and proper understanding of a problem or situation when placed under conditions of stress.
  • Post-graduate study or qualification in a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering a variety of security assessment including wireless technologies, telephony, industrial control systems (ICS), Internet of Things (IoT), physical penetration testing and social engineering.
  • Project coordination/management experience.
  • Packet/intra-packet level knowledge of networking.
  • Experience of Non-IP protocols.
  • Detailed cryptanalysis or cryptographic experience.
  • Experience of enterprise OSs and platforms (iSeries, Solaris, VMWare ESX).
  • Experience of various development platforms, middleware, code review and QA.
  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Effective communicator able to absorbs complex technical information and communicate effectively to different levels of technical and business audiences.
  • Ability to work and learn within a team or independently.
  • Ability to make considered, reasoned decisions, and use own initiative.
  • Experience in the development and use of automated tools to assist in the project process by automating manual tasks where possible.
  • Ability to understanding the needs, objectives, and constraints of those in other disciplines and functions.
  • Keeping overall objectives and strategies in mind, and not being deflected from these when dealing with matters of detail.
  • Experienced in effective problem-solving techniques with ability to resolve individually or through facilitating a team of appropriate experts.
