Purpose of the Role:
This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance and accounting activities for Manlift's businesses. The position will also support the Finance Manager in driving business performance through revenue enhancement and effective cost control.
Tasks and responsibilities:
1. Credit Policy & Governance
Develop and implement credit control policies, procedures, and approval matrices.
Evaluate credit worthiness of customers using financial analysis, credit reports, trade references, and internal policies.
Review and recommend customer credit limits to management.
Ensure compliance with company credit policy, IFRS requirements, and audit standards.
2. Customer Credit Management
Conduct credit checks for new customers and periodic reviews of existing customers.
Monitor ageing of receivables and identify high-risk customers.
Approve or recommend terms of payment, credit periods, and special arrangements.
Work closely with commercial teams on onboarding processes and customer risk assessment.
3. Collections & Receivables Management
Lead, manage, and motivate the collections team to ensure timely receipt of outstanding payments.
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly collections performance.
Implement proactive collection strategies to reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
Ensure timely follow-up of overdue accounts and initiate escalation protocols.
Handle complex or major customer accounts directly.
4. Dispute Resolution/Legal
Identify and resolve billing, pricing, delivery, and contract-related disputes affecting collections.
Coordinate with sales, finance, operations, and customer service teams to resolve customer queries/credit notes.
Ensure timely issuance of credit notes and debit notes as per approval policies.
Liaison with external lawyers in taking legal action against defaulting customers, follow up on the cases and periodic meeting with lawyers to discuss various actions to recover the dues.
5. Reporting & Analysis
Prepare monthly ageing analysis, DSO reports, forecasted collections, and overdue analysis reports.
Highlight red flags, doubtful debts, and slow-moving accounts to management.
Assist in provisioning for doubtful debts as per IFRS.
Present monthly performance PowerPoint for MBR.
6. Process Improvement & Systems
Enhance automation of collections processes through ERP, CRM, or credit control systems.
Implement best practices to improve efficiency, reduce disputes, and strengthen controls.
Ensure accurate customer master creation and maintenance.
7. Team Management
Lead and supervise the credit control and collections team.
Provide training, coaching, and development for team members.
Set KPIs for team performance and monitor results.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of credit management principles, financial analysis, and risk assessment.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
High level of analytical ability and commercial acumen.
Strong command of ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/), Excel, and reporting tools.
Ability to manage pressure, deadlines, and difficult conversations professionally.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
Professional qualifications (CMA/ACCA/CPA/CFA) an added advantage.
5-10 years of experience in credit control, receivables, or finance operations.
Experience in managing collections for large key accounts and high transaction volumes.
Prior experience in contracting and Construction industries preferred.
