The Cost Accountant monitors, analyzes, and reports on project costs to ensure accurate financial management and support strategic decisions, playing a key role in the company's cost control and profitability for construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Allocation Review
Review and verify the accuracy of cost allocations for each construction project to ensure correct recording and reporting.
2. Direct Cost Monitoring
Monitor and analyze direct material costs, ensuring correct supplier pricing and tracking cost fluctuations.
3. Supplier Cost Comparisons
Verifying cost comparisons between suppliers to identify savings opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
4. Budget Adherence Validation
Collaborate closely with the procurement and project teams to validate spending against approved budgets.
5. Reporting and Variance Analysis
Prepare cost reports and perform variance analyses to identify discrepancies between actual and budgeted costs and recommend corrective actions.
6. Budget Setting and Monitoring
Assist in developing project budgets and continuously monitor actual spending versus budgeted figures.
7. Compliance and Standards
Ensure all cost accounting activities comply with company policies, financial controls, and relevant accounting standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
Prior experience in construction cost accounting or a similar role.
Proficiency in accounting software (such as ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
