The cost accountant's duties include tracking, evaluating, and reporting project expenses in order to guarantee precise financial management and aid in strategic decision-making. Throughout construction projects, the position is essential to the company's capacity to control costs and preserve profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Allocation Review
o Review and verify the accuracy of cost allocations for each construction project to ensure correct recording and reporting.
2. Direct Cost Monitoring
o Monitor and analyze direct material costs, ensuring correct supplier pricing and tracking cost fluctuations.
3. Supplier Cost Comparisons
o Verifying cost comparisons between suppliers to identify savings opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
4. Budget Adherence Validation
o Collaborate closely with the procurement and project teams to validate spending against approved budgets.
5. Reporting and Variance Analysis
o Prepare cost reports and perform variance analyses to identify discrepancies between actual and budgeted costs and recommend corrective actions.
6. Budget Setting and Monitoring
o Assist in developing project budgets and continuously monitor actual spending versus budgeted figures.
7. Compliance and Standards
o Ensure all cost accounting activities comply with company policies, financial controls, and relevant accounting standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
Prior experience in construction cost accounting or a similar role.
Proficiency in accounting software (such as ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
