Job Description

Clinical Practice:
  • Provides high quality patient care in all aspects of Pediatric Anesthesiology.
  • Provides consultation (inpatient, and emergency room) upon request and responds in a timely manner as per the hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participates in On-Call Rota and is available over phone and in person when needed. Ensures availability and response time within the prescribed time frame in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Performs any other clinical responsibilities related to the Pediatric Anesthesiology, as assigned.
  • Provides peri-operative pain management services in pediatric patients.
  • Actively participates in department\'s educational activities and training programs of the department and hospital.
  • Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and continuing education requirements.
  • Participates in research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research committee.
  • Participates in all mandatory departmental activities and serves on departmental and hospital committees, as required.
  • Assists the department in the development of existing services and implementation of new services that help in quality improvement and maximum utilization of all resources within the department and across the hospital.
  • Abides by the current hospital and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of electronic medical records as per the hospital guidelines.
  • Provides supportive services to the multidisciplinary management of patients from other paediatric subspecialties.
  • Contributes to the development of excellence in Clinical practice through academic and professional education, training, and research.
  • Advises and collaborates with patients\' families to educate them about various conditions on how to minimize their impact on children\'s health.
  • Evaluates patient and records applicable notes about patient\xe2\x80\x99s condition for purposes of serving as a record of treatment and/or making a possible referral to another member of the health care professional team.
  • Liaises with other medical and non-medical staff at organization to ensure quality patient treatment.
  • Supplies and provides care in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.
  • Follows ethical and regulatory guidelines.
  • Takes part in administrative functions that ensure the continued operations of the clinical environment, such as committees, task forces and performance improvement measures.
  • Adheres to individual approved clinical privileges, medical staff bylaws and all relevant policies and procedures of the Medical Staff.
  • Assists the department head in setting and implementing the strategic plan and in achieving management goals and objectives.
  • Participates in outpatient clinic, day care service and inpatient care and provide consultation within hospital, make recommendations, give appropriate advice, and/or facilitate decisions.
  • Monitors and evaluates the overall performance of team and ensure that high quality service oriented patient care is delivered on a consistent basis.
  • Participates in developing clinical protocols, audit clinical care and develop key performance indicator relating to the department.
  • Participates in planning and execution of research programs and publications relating to the department.
  • Participates in accreditation programs, in committees or forums as deemed necessary.
  • Identifies self-learning needs and take initiative to meet those needs.
  • Serves as a role model for all staff assisting in promoting and sharing knowledge via mentorship and preceptorship programs in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Acts as a preceptor/mentor in the supervision and teaching new staff or students in the development of competencies required.
  • Welcomes and actively participates in staff/student orientation, promoting and supporting a positive learning environment and transcultural principles in nursing practice.
  • Develops and maintains own professional knowledge, clinical competency and skills utilizing reflective practice and maintaining a professional portfolio.
  • Participates in service activities that contribute to positive patient outcomes, a positive patient experience and a healthy professional environment.
  • Participates in and/or has the ability to lead under the guidance, support and direction of senior staff, the development of programs or quality initiatives that seek to measure and contribute to patient outcomes e.g. clinical auditing, performance improvement activities, and data collection.
  • Participates in clinical nursing research and supports Hospital research initiatives.
Communication:
  • Interacts with children, visitors in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.
  • Interacts with members of the healthcare team in a manner that demonstrates respect, effective communication skills and promotes teamwork.
  • Documents all relevant information correctly, appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Promotes safe patient care and a safe environment by embracing a Culture of Safety and identifying proactively areas of risk and the timely reporting of adverse safety events.
Collaboration:
  • Demonstrates advocacy for children, young adults and their families.
  • Encourages and involves children and their families in care decisions to make informed choices by providing them with information, support and direction to the relevant support services as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the achievement of clinical quality indicators, positive patient outcomes and patient and family satisfaction through extraordinary service.
  • Coordinates care across the continuum \xe2\x80\x93 understands and utilizes case management resources to achieve patient care goals, discharge planning, decreasing the length of stay and waiting times.
Safety:
  • To actively support strategies for Safeguarding Children and ensure participate in the development and implementation of safeguarding strategies and procedures.
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behaviour or performance.
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision-making or documentation.
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication.
  • Actively promote safety for children, families, visitors and co-workers.
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and take time to assess and resolve the situation.
