Job Description

A construction accountant manages project finances by developing budgets, tracking job costs, processing invoices and payments, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop detailed project budgets, track actual expenditures against those budgets, and analyze job costs to identify potential overruns. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, variance analyses, and cost reports for senior management. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, review and process subcontractor and consultant invoices, and set up purchase orders. Perform daily cash balance reconciliations, prepare bank reconciliations, and manage cash flow for construction projects. Assist in the development of project and corporate budgets and forecasts, ensuring funds are allocated wisely and efficiently. Ensure all financial activities comply with company policies, accounting standards, and relevant tax and construction regulations. Prepare and gather necessary financial documentation for internal and external audits and other regulatory bodies. Manage the maintenance of the General Ledger and oversee the use of construction management and accounting software to track project finances.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Previous accounting experience within the construction industry, is highly desirable. Proficiency in accounting software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong ability to analyze financial data, interpret financial reports, and provide insightful recommendations to management. Meticulous attention to detail is crucial for accurate record-keeping and to avoid costly errors. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with project managers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
