Commis Chef (Junior Chef)
Job Overview:
A Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen brigade. They work under the guidance of Chef de Parties and the Sous Chef to learn all aspects of the kitchen, performing basic food preparation and supporting all stations as needed.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Prep: Perform basic preparatory tasks under supervision, such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables; preparing salads; butchering meat; and weighing ingredients.
  • Station Support: Assist the Chef de Partie in various kitchen stations (e.g., veg, butchery, sauce) as required.
  • Stock Rotation: Ensure ingredients are properly labeled, dated, and rotated according to FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles.
  • Cleaning & Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe work environment by washing dishes, cleaning work surfaces, and taking out trash.
  • Learning & Development: Learn and master fundamental cooking techniques, recipes, and kitchen procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • A culinary school certificate or a strong desire to learn on the job.
  • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Willingness to take direction and work as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive, eager-to-learn attitude.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
