The commis chef works under the supervision of more senior chefs, assisting with basic food preparation, kitchen organization, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. This role is vital for supporting the smooth operation of the kitchen and developing foundational cooking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food under the direction of the chef de partie or sous chef
Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients accurately
Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning
Keep kitchen areas clean and organized
Store food properly and label items as per safety guidelines
Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures
Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all food prep areas
Learn and practice kitchen techniques and recipes as instructed
Support other chefs in service and mise en place (preparation before service)
Report any problems or equipment issues to supervisors
Skills and Qualifications:
Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen hygiene
Willingness to learn and follow instructions
Good teamwork and communication skills
Time management and the ability to work under pressure
Physical stamina (standing for long hours, lifting items)
Culinary school training (preferred but not always required)
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced kitchen environment
Shift work, including weekends, holidays, and evenings
Requires standing for extended periods
May involve exposure to heat, steam, and sharp tools

Pay: AED2,000.00 - AED2,500.00 per month
