Job Description

Position Summary



The Commis 1 is responsible for supporting the kitchen team in preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes according to established recipes and standards. This role is ideal for individuals with basic culinary training who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a fast-paced, high-quality kitchen environment. The Commis 1 works under the supervision of senior chefs, assisting with daily kitchen operations and maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.

Key Responsibilities



Food Preparation & Cooking

Prepare ingredients and assist with basic cooking tasks as directed by senior chefs.

Follow recipes and presentation guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.

Maintain mise en place and ensure workstations are clean, organized, and well-stocked.

Assist with plating and garnishing dishes during service.

Team Support

Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Take direction from Chef de Partie, Demi Chef, and Sous Chef, and complete assigned tasks promptly.

Support colleagues by helping with prep work, cleaning, and other kitchen duties as needed.

Food Safety & Hygiene

Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards, including proper storage and labeling of ingredients.

Maintain cleanliness of work areas, equipment, and utensils at all times.

Follow HACCP and company guidelines for food handling and sanitation.

Inventory & Stock Management

Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries.

Report low stock levels or shortages to supervisors.

Help with stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure freshness.

General Duties

Follow all company safety and security procedures.

Report equipment malfunctions, accidents, or hazards to management.

Maintain a clean and professional appearance and uniform.

Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.

Stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs as required during shifts.

Qualifications & Skills



1-2 years of experience in a professional kitchen or relevant culinary training.

Basic knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and hygiene standards.

Willingness to learn and take direction from senior chefs.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Positive attitude, reliability, and a passion for culinary growth.
