to join our Japanese restaurant team, specializing in the
preparation and handling of sushi
and other traditional Japanese dishes. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong foundation in culinary techniques with a focus on freshness, hygiene, and presentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of sushi items including nigiri, maki, sashimi, and rolls.
Ensure freshness and proper handling of all fish and seafood.
Support senior chefs in food preparation, plating, and service during operating hours.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and preparation areas.
Follow standard recipes and portion control procedures.
Ensure compliance with hygiene, health, and safety regulations.
Assist in receiving and storing supplies properly.
Maintain proper labeling, dating, and rotation of all food items.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Commis Chef or Kitchen Assistant in a Japanese or sushi-focused restaurant.
Basic knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, and sushi preparation techniques.
Ability to handle knives with skill and follow hygiene and food safety standards.
Willingness to learn and adapt to traditional Japanese culinary practices.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
