: Chiller Technician Supervisor
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly technical Chiller Technician with proven leadership abilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and supervision of work on large-tonnage centrifugal, screw, and scroll chillers, as well as other critical components of building cooling systems. This role requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise, a deep understanding of HVAC/R systems, and the ability to lead, train, and support a team of technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Service & Repair (70%):

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on large-tonnage centrifugal, screw, and absorption chillers (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York, McQuay, Daikin).
• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, VFDs, and associated controls.
• Perform chemical water treatment testing and analysis for closed and open loop systems.
• Utilize advanced tools including vibration analyzers, ultrasonic leak detectors, megohmmeters, and refrigerant leak detectors.
• Recover, evacuate, charge, and manage refrigerants (including CFC, HCFC, and HFC) in accordance with EPA 608 regulations.
• Read and interpret blueprints, control schematics, and single-line diagrams.
• Respond to emergency service calls and perform root cause analysis to prevent future issues.

Supervision & Leadership (30%):

• Act as a lead technical resource and subject matter expert for a team of HVAC technicians.
• Assign, schedule, and supervise daily work orders and PM tasks for the chiller team.
• Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentorship to junior technicians.
• Review work completed by technicians for quality and accuracy.
• Assist the Operations Manager in sourcing parts, managing inventory, and ensuring service vehicles are properly stocked.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients on assigned sites, building strong professional relationships.
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in strict compliance with company safety policies, OSHA, and industry standards.

Qualifications & Experience
Required:

• High School Diploma or GED. Completion of a technical school or union apprenticeship program in HVAC-R is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing large commercial and industrial chillers.
• Must have experience working for an HVAC service provider or a facilities management company.
• EPA Universal Certification for refrigerant handling.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Proficiency with building automation systems (BAS) and DDC controls (e.g., Trane Tracer, Siemens Apogee, Johnson Controls Metasys).
• Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• OEM factory training or certifications (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York).
• Previous team lead or supervisory experience.
• Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software for work orders and PM scheduling.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and access roof-top equipment.
• Ability to work in various environmental conditions (extreme heat, cold, noise, confined spaces).
