Chilled Water Technician (65 Nos)
Job Title: Chilled Water Technician / HVAC-R Technician (Chilled Water Systems Specialist)
Reports To: Chief Engineer / HVAC Supervisor / Project Manager
Summary:
The Chilled Water Technician is a specialized HVAC professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex chilled water systems used for large-scale air conditioning and industrial process cooling. This role requires a deep understanding of refrigeration principles, water chemistry, and large mechanical system operation.
Key Responsibilities:

• Installation: Install, assemble, and fabricate components of chilled water systems, including chillers (centrifugal, screw, scroll), cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, water tanks, and associated piping networks.
• Maintenance: Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance on all system components. This includes cleaning tubes, checking and replacing bearings and seals on pumps, checking alignment, lubricating moving parts, and checking system performance.
• Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and rectify mechanical and control system faults within the chilled water circuit. Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems. Address issues related to pressure, temperature, flow rates, and water quality.
• Water Treatment: Understand and monitor system water chemistry. Take water samples, add chemicals (inhibitors, biocides) as directed, and ensure water quality is maintained to prevent scaling, corrosion, and biological growth (like Legionella).
• System Operation: Start up, shut down, and operate chilled water systems in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). Monitor system gauges and computer-controlled management systems for optimal performance.
• Piping & Insulation: Work with complex piping networks, including soldering, brazing, welding, and threading pipes. Install and repair pipe insulation.
• Compliance & Safety: Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for electrical and mechanical systems. Ensure all work complies with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, OSHA, local codes).
• Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, system readings, and parts used.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of a technical school or HVAC apprenticeship program is strongly preferred.
• EPA Universal Certification for handling refrigerants is required.
• Proven experience (3-5 years) working specifically on large tonnage chilled water systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with tools including multimeters, pressure gauges, leak detectors, and tubing tools.
• Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and control sequences is a major advantage.
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and at heights.
