Duties

Read and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately assemble chilled water piping systems in accordance with ASME codes & standards. Measure, cut, thread, solder, and assemble pipes using hand tools, power tools, pipe threading machines, and tube bending equipment to precise specifications. Perform welding operations including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and welding techniques to join pipes securely and meet safety standards. Install pipe supports, hangers, rigging components, and fire sprinkler fittings to ensure stability and compliance with project requirements. Conduct quality inspections utilizing calipers, measuring tapes, and other precision tools to verify dimensions and alignment during installation. Maintain a thorough understanding of schematics, mechanical drawings, and HVAC system layouts to facilitate accurate assembly and troubleshooting. Collaborate with team members on construction sites or manufacturing floors to ensure safety protocols are followed during pipe fitting activities. Assist in pipeline testing, system flushing, soldering connections, and routine maintenance tasks to uphold system integrity over time. Support the use of basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to pipe sizes and flow rates, and project documentation. Follow all safety guidelines related to welding (including ASME standards), construction practices, rigging procedures, and site-specific protocols to maintain a safe working environment.

Experience

Proven experience as a pipe fitter working on HVAC systems or similar construction projects involving chilled water pipelines. Skilled in MIG welding, FCAW, TIG welding techniques with demonstrated ability to produce high-quality welds adhering to industry standards. Familiarity with fire sprinkler fitting, plumbing assembly, pipeline installation, and tube bending processes. Knowledge of blueprint reading--interpreting schematics and technical drawings accurately for precise installation work. Mechanical aptitude with understanding of HVAC systems, schematics, ASME codes & standards related to piping systems. Hands-on experience with hand tools such as calipers, pipe cutters, threading machines; power tools including drills and grinders; rigging equipment; soldering irons; and other construction tools. Ability to perform basic math calculations necessary for measurements and system specifications. Experience working on construction sites or manufacturing environments with a focus on safety compliance. Familiarity with maintenance procedures for piping systems post-installation is a plus.
