governance.
About the reporting scope and stakeholders
This role is based in Bahrain and is a member of the Terminal SMT (Senior Management Team), reporting directly to the Terminal Managing Director. Working in a matrix functional setup, this role leads a team of direct reports and is overall responsible for the commercial function in the terminal. This role also has a functional link (dotted reporting line) to the Regional Head of Commercial, and is a key member of the regional and global Commercial community in order to leverage and share relevant business opportunities, best practices and learnings across the organization. The CCO proactively engages, collaborates, spars and aligns with a broad network of diverse internal/external stakeholders and colleagues, to deliver exceptional business results. Critical external stakeholders include customers, relevant authorities (e.g. government, port authorities), partners/suppliers of logistics solutions etc.
Purpose
Drive a proactive and customer focused mindset across all functions in Bahrain terminal, to deliver the targeted short and long-term business results and customer outcomes, and help APMT achieve our 2026 Safer, Better and Bigger strategic vision.
Principal Accountabilities
Local commercial strategy
  • Is accountable for the full Commercial portfolio, including products and services, revenue, sales, marketing, customer attraction and care, and achievement of financial and non-financial targets
  • Own and execute the Bahrain Commercial Strategy, provide direction for the annual plans of the commercial team, delivering top line performance and securing long term growth.
  • Identify, develop and implement commercial business opportunities leading to differentiated value propositions via new products and services, generating new revenue streams and incremental market share.
  • Cultivate ongoing in-depth and data-based insights regarding local customers, market and competitors (supply and demand, utilization, hinterland, capabilities versus competition, switching costs across competition, market rates levels (in a compliant manner), and service provided vs the competition).
  • Translate customer and market insights into a robust Value Proposition (overall for the terminal), and then further tailored for each commercial opportunity.
Customer focus & external stakeholder engagement
  • Build and own the local relationships with Shipping Lines for Bahrain terminal, and actively participate as key member of Deal Teams to win Shipping Line services.
  • Build and own relationships with key importers and exporters in Bahrain to capture and expand all possible business opportunities.
  • Lead and role model a customer-focused mindset across the organisation, ensuring that the customer is surfaced and at the forefront of all relevant decisions.
  • Proactively track and ensure an ongoing positive and upward trend on net promoter score (NPS).
  • Continuously explore opportunities to enhance the customer experience, taking into account customer feedback, needs and data.
  • Cultivate a collaborative mindset by working closer with shipping lines in Bahrain; deliver improved landside customer solutions by simplifying their supply chains in collaboration with logistics partners
  • Cultivate and invest in partnerships with external stakeholders, e.g., government, port authority.
Performance management
  • Define objectives and targets, ensuring quantifiable and actionable performance management.
  • Track performance, ensuring successful delivery against agreed commitments and targets.
  • Identify and address deviations and issues, and develop improvement plans as needed.
Future growth
  • With internal stakeholders lead the development and execution of the growth agenda for APMT Bahrain, including concession extension and terminal investments.
  • Translate customer insights and market trends into long term commercial outlooks, including volume and revenue outlooks, market share scenarios and commercial assumptions, as inputs to growth discussions
Transformation & collaboration
  • Ensure successful planning, implementation and sustainability of global commercial standards and processes to support the Bahrain commercial strategy and the global commercial transformation.
  • Lead and role model innovation and transformation, including mindsets, capabilities and behaviors.
  • Collaborate closely with critical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on and ownership of outcomes.
  • Set local guidance and standards as needed, taking into account global direction and scalability.
  • Share best practices, relevant insights and learnings across local, regional, global functional and leadership teams to ensure the necessary sparring and drive the right business decisions.
  • Leverage matrix opportunities, collaborating closely with terminal, regional and global teams across functions to achieve the company strategy and goals together.
Leadership
  • Coach and develop direct reports for immediate and longer-term success and growth. Ensure succession and development plans are in place for critical roles, including own role.

  • Has 8-10 years of commercial sales/customer experience working in a global and matrix B2B or B2C organisation with successful and ongoing change and transformation.
  • Has exceptional customer focus, consistently leveraging customer insights to drive decisions and achieve business results. Understands the value of integrated solutions and value-based selling. Cultivates a deep, proactive understanding of customer requirements and goals across supply chain. Able to identify customer needs and translate into customer solutions.
  • Has a strategic mindset, with proven experience setting strategy and balancing shorter and longer-term goals. Anticipates and interprets market changes, envisions a compelling future, is able to see the big picture while balancing necessary details and makes decisions based on data.
  • Has sound business acumen, particularly financial, commercial and operational understanding of supply chains.
  • Experience in Middle-East logistics industries such as terminal or shipping is an advantage.
  • An advanced degree in business, marketing or related discipline is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English is required.
