Roles and Responsibilities of an AutoCAD Draftsman

1.

Drafting and Designing

Create detailed 2D or 3D drawings based on sketches, specifications, and calculations from engineers, architects, or designers. Prepare floor plans, elevations, sections, and detailed component drawings. Modify and update existing drawings as required.
2.

Collaboration

Work closely with engineers, architects, and other professionals to understand project requirements. Participate in design reviews and meetings to clarify details or receive feedback. Coordinate with other draftsmen or teams to ensure consistent drawing standards.
3.

Technical Accuracy

Ensure accuracy of all drawings and adherence to industry or company standards (e.g., ISO, ASME, or local building codes). Perform quality checks and corrections before final submission. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of design changes and integrate them into the drawings.
4.

Documentation and Record Keeping

Maintain drawing logs, file management, and version control for all drawings and documentation. Ensure proper storage and backup of CAD files.
5.

Software Usage

Proficient in AutoCAD and sometimes other CAD software like Revit, SolidWorks, or MicroStation. Customize AutoCAD settings, templates, and blocks to improve drafting efficiency.
6.

Site Support (optional, depending on role)

Occasionally visit job sites to take measurements, verify conditions, or assist in implementation. Communicate with construction teams or site engineers regarding drawing clarifications.
7.

Time Management

Meet project deadlines by prioritizing tasks and managing workload effectively. Report progress to supervisors or project managers regularly.
