Job Description



Working within the Higher Education Sector the incumbent will thrive in a dynamic department focused on identifying and capitalizing on commercial opportunities.

Whilst this role has a focus on Financial Planning & Analysis, there are additional responsibilities which will be undertaken in the short term as the team builds; this will include consulting services, office/lab management, continuing education services.

Responsibilities:
  • Identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing commercial opportunities whilst cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders,
  • Provide guidance and support throughout the commercialization process, develop commercial proposals, negotiate contracts, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Developing of accurate and timely financial forecasts and budgets, ensuring they align with organizational goals.and allow relevant departments to prepare accurate and realistic budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Analyze financial data and trends to inform budget recommendations and financial strategies
  • Conduct in-depth financial analyses to support decision-making processes, including cost-benefit analyses, trend analyses, and variance analyses.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to university leadership, highlighting key financial metrics, risks, and opportunities.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex financial information in a clear and understandable manner to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to assist in long-term planning, including capital projects, new program initiatives, and resource allocation.
  • Serve as a financial advisor to university departments, assisting with financial questions and challenges.
  • Oversee the allocation and assignment of office, lab, and retail spaces.
  • Develop and implement effective marketing strategies to attract potential tenants.
  • Select third party advisor to conduct market analysis and set competitive lease rates
  • Negotiate lease terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with university policies
  • Coordinate with university departments to promote available spaces to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as required specifically within Consulting, Office/Labs and Continuing Education
Requirements
  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a technical discipline (Engineering, Healthcare, etc.) and/or a bachelor\'s degree in business or finance, CFA or MBA/MSc. Ideally, a mix of Technical and business
  • academic backgrounds would be valued
  • The FMVA certification, or an equivalent, would be beneficial.
  • Experience in developing and delivering business plans including financial planning and reporting.
  • Experience of developing new business opportunities through enterprise, commercial and/or knowledge exchanges.
  • In-depth understanding of the higher education sector especially the need for Universities to diversify their activity and income streams.
