Main Purpose of the Job The main purpose of the job position Biologist-Mechanical & Water Systems Aquarium is to ensure the health and safety of the aquatic life in an aquarium. Main Competencies required for the Position The main competencies required of the job position Biologist-Mechanical & Water Systems-Aquarium are: Knowledge of aquatic biology: This includes knowledge of the different types of aquatic life, their habitats, and their needs. Knowledge of water quality: This includes knowledge of the different factors that affect water quality, and how to maintain water quality in an aquarium. Mechanical skills: This includes the ability to repair and maintain mechanical systems, such as filters, pumps, and other equipment. Communication skills: This includes the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, the public, and other stakeholders. Problem-solving skills: This includes the ability to identify and solve problems related to the care of aquatic life and the maintenance of aquariums. Main Duties / Responsibilities The main duties and responsibilities of a Biologist-Mechanical & Water Systems-Aquarium are: Maintaining the water quality: This includes testing the water quality and making adjustments as needed, such as adding chemicals or changing filters. Feeding and caring for the aquatic life: This includes providing the appropriate food and water, and monitoring the health of the animals. Repairing and maintaining the mechanical systems: This includes repairing and maintaining filters, pumps, and other equipment. Researching and developing new methods for caring for aquatic life. Writing reports and presentations on the care of aquatic life. Supervising and training other staff members. Minimum qualifications / educational levels required for this position bachelor's degree in aquatic biology, or a related field Selection Criteria Skills: Aquarists must have strong communication and customer service skills. They must be able to communicate effectively with their colleagues, the public, and other stakeholders. They must also be able to answer questions about aquatic life and provide information to the public. Abilities: Aquarists must also be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must be able to handle a variety of tasks, including physical labor, customer service, and data entry. Aquarists must be detail-oriented and have a strong work ethic. They must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Passion: Aquarists must be passionate about aquatic life and conservation. Strong commitment to customer service

Special Conditions Working hours: Aquarists may work long hours, including weekends and holidays. Physical demands: The job of an Aquarist can be physically demanding, as it involves lifting heavy objects and working in a variety of positions. Exposure to chemicals: Aquarists may be exposed to chemicals, such as those used in water treatment. Exposure to animals: Aquarists may be exposed to animals, such as fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Swimming ability: Aquarists may be required to be able to swim in order to clean and maintain aquariums. Risk of injury: The job of an Aquarist can be hazardous, as there is a risk of injury from sharp objects, chemicals, and animals.
