Job Description

The British Embassy Abu Dhabi has a vacancy for a Regional Intelligence Queue Manager working for the Home Office International Operations Team (HOIO) on a fixed-term contract for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Home Office International Operations (HOIO) operates to deliver upstream interventions, intelligence, capabilities and partnerships to protect the UK from harm. We have approximately 270 staff deployed across 40 countries and 50 staff in the UK.

HOIO has responsibility for identifying threats to the UK Border, preventing inadequately documented passengers travelling to the UK, identifying visa abuse and preventing illegal commodities (drugs, cash, firearms) destined for the UK via passenger or freight. We work with UK and international law enforcement agencies to tackle these crimes, primarily through preventing the travel of inadequately documented passengers to the UK; enhancing visa decision quality; identifying and tackling underlying criminality and providing intelligence on threats to the UK border. HOIO also undertakes Capacity Building projects with international partners so they are able to identify victims of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking and Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation.

The team in Abu Dhabi is part of a wider Middle East Regional team, which also comprises of a team in Dubai - UAE and Doha - Qatar. We work closely with the Pakistan Regional team, based in Islamabad. Collaborative work and assistance with other teams in the region is essential to the role and the successful candidate may be required to travel to these locations.

The Regional Intelligence Queue Manager has a specific function within the HOIO Regional team. The successful candidate will specifically manage intelligence received by the regional teams through their digital intelligence management platform, prioritising its importance and time sensitivity and making appropriate recommendation.

The jobholder will need to be proactive as they will be required to assess intelligence and conduct research but they will also need to be reactive as they will be expected to deal with live enquiries. The role requires effective decision-making and the ability to analyse complex data and make recommendations based on the conclusions is important.

Duties and Responsibilities

Intelligence gathering and analysis.
  • Develop operational intelligence products through the collection, interpretation and evaluation of relevant quantitative and qualitative information sources.
  • Strong problem-solving skills are required to identify and investigate suspected organised immigration crime and to gather evidence-based intelligence.
  • Using the Intelligence Management System (IMS), ensure that all relevant intelligence is gathered, handled, assessed and disseminated in line with guidance.
  • Prioritise and action allegations from the public and intelligence referrals from partners both within and outside the organisation.
Development, research and support of criminal investigations
  • Work closely with HMG partners at post, host authorities and international partners to support the development of intelligence and investigations to disrupt organised crime groups.

  • Once trained the jobholder should be able to work towards objectives with minimal supervision.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy\'s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK citizens.

Eligibility

Applicants must be able to obtain an appropriate level of UK Security Clearance, higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities. For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian or New Zealand nationality in order to gain and maintain the level of clearance.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of written and spoken English with the ability to write high quality reports and briefings.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft desktop functions (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Explorer) at a level where you can: create, use and interrogate complex templates, tables, datasets on Home Office and FCDO IT platforms.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with a flexible approach to allocation of tasks
  • An ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
  • Previous immigration, law enforcement and/or analytical or investigation experience would be an advantage.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role which includes 25 days of leave per annum (calculated pro-rata).

Salary is at AED 14,520 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The Embassy is open from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 18:00. Normal weekly working hours are thirty-five (35) hours per week, net of breaks.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy\'s sponsorship.

This role is based in Abu Dhabi but will cover the Middle East and Pakistan and will involve travel within the region and to the Pakistan for business purposes. The successful candidate must be able to secure visas for these countries.

You will be committed to your professional development and there will be funding available for L&D, the jobholder will be required to complete in house training and mentoring, to include the use of Intelligence management databases and the opportunity to achieve Intelligence Professionalism Programme (IPP) accreditation with the UK College of Policing.
