Job Summary: The Assistant Firefighting Technician supports the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of firefighting equipment and systems, including fire extinguishers, sprinklers, hydrants, and suppression systems. They assist in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and assist emergency responders when needed. Key Responsibilities: * Installation & Maintenance Support:
Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining firefighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, fire hoses, hydrants, and suppression systems.
Help with basic plumbing and electrical connections for fire protection systems.
Follow manufacturer guidelines and safety standards (NFPA, OSHA, local codes).
Inspections & Testing:
Perform routine inspections of firefighting equipment to ensure proper functionality.
Assist in testing fire pumps, alarms, and suppression systems under supervision.
Document inspection findings and report defects or needed repairs.
Emergency Support & Repairs:
Respond to service calls for malfunctioning firefighting equipment.
Assist senior technicians in troubleshooting and repairing systems.
Support emergency drills and real fire response when required.
Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure all work meets NFPA, OSHA, and local fire safety regulations.
Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and compliance reports.
Assist in preparing certification documents for clients and authorities.
Customer Service & Training Assistance:
Provide basic guidance to clients on firefighting equipment usage.
Assist in training building occupants on emergency procedures.
Communicate professionally with customers and team members.
Workshop & Inventory Duties:
Help manage inventory of spare parts and firefighting equipment.
Keep tools and workspaces clean and organized.
Assist in refilling and recharging fire extinguishers.
Qualifications & Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in fire safety or related field preferred.
Basic knowledge of firefighting systems (sprinklers, extinguishers, hydrants, etc.).
Willingness to obtain certifications (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, or state-specific fire safety training).
Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
Physical fitness (able to lift heavy equipment, work at heights, and handle emergencies).
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Valid drivers license (may require travel to job sites).
Work Environment:
Field-based role with visits to construction sites, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities.
May involve working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, or hazardous conditions.
Some on-call duties for emergency repairs may be required.
