Job Purpose

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy of the University of Sharjah invites applications for a full time faculty member in the position of Assistant Professor for Spring 2024 with a commencement date of Jan 2024.

Main accountabilities & expectations

\xe2\x80\x8b\xe2\x80\x8b\xe2\x80\x8b Teaching: Teach courses related to Medicinal Chemistry/Bioanalytical Pharmacy related courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. This includes preparing and delivering lectures, supervise student, conducting and assessing student learning through examinations and other assignments.

Research: Engage in scholarly research activities, including securing funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at conferences. They may also be expected to supervise graduate students\' research projects.

Curriculum development: Developing and updating the curriculum, including selecting appropriate textbooks and other resources and incorporating current research and developments in the field.

Advising: Provide academic advising to students, including guidance on course selection, career paths, and research opportunities.

Professional development: Keep up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and technologies related to the field. They may attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities. 6.

Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues within the institution, as well as external partners, to advance research, teaching, and service activities.

Service: Participate in service activities that contribute to the institution, the profession, and the community. This may include serving on committees, mentoring students, providing community outreach, and participating in professional organizations.

Job Specific Accountabilities:
  • \xe2\x80\x8bDesign and deliver courses and lectures in Medicinal Chemistry/Bioanalytical courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Evaluate and grade student performance, provide feedback and support their academic progress.
  • Conduct independent research in drug design and discovery field and publish scholarly articles, reviews or book chapters. Obtain research funding and collaborate with other researchers to advance the field.
  • Participate in departmental, college and university committees, engage in community outreach activities, and serve as a mentor to students and junior faculty members.
  • Develop and revise course materials, learning objectives, and assessments for Medicinal Chemistry department courses, ensure that they align with accreditation standards and reflect current practices.
Required Skills
  • \xe2\x80\x8bStrong communication skills: Effectively communicating complex concepts and information to undergraduate and graduate students, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Research skills: Experience in conducting independent research, analyzing data, and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Teaching skills: The ability to design and deliver effective lectures, develop and assess learning objectives, and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Leadership skills: The ability to lead and collaborate with colleagues, mentor students and junior faculty members, and participate in departmental and university-wide committees.
  • Technological proficiency: Familiarity with educational technology and learning management systems and proficiency in statistical analysis software and other relevant software programs.
Desirable Requirements

\xe2\x80\x8bPreferred Qualification & Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Pharmacy or PharmD is a MUST.
  • PhD in Medicinal Chemistry / Bioanalytical Chemistry / Pharmaceutical chemistry / Drug Design and discovery is a MUST.
  • At least two years post-Ph.D. teaching experience in the field at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • A strong record of independent research, including publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and successful grant funding. This record should be supported by a high H-index and citations record.
  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and junior faculty members.
  • Experience with online learning platforms and technologies, including learning management systems and computer based examination.
  • Good communication skills (speaking and writing).
  • Multicultural Western exposure is a PLUS.
