Al Dar University College invites applicants for the position of Acquisition Librarian. Reporting to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs provides leadership to ensure the Library services excel in the provision of support for teaching, learning and research at ADUC. He/she is responsible for the overall administration and budget for the Library, establishing policies and procedures pertaining to library acquisitions, services, collections and facilities.
Major Responsibilities of the Head Librarian include:
Librarian is responsible for the procurement processes; selects and order books, periodicals, and other materials for library; reviews publisher\'s announcements, catalogsand compiles list of publications for personal copy ordering
Coordinates with different departments/schools of the organization for the procurement of library materials
Responsible for the selection and purchase of books and materials including e-books and online resources
Contacts and transacts with vendors and publishers, negotiates for the costs and discounts, arranges standing orders, and selects individual titles or resources
Provides essential educational support to the College community, through its collection of books, eBooks, databases, multimedia and internet resources
Prepares library budget and financial forecasts
Prepares and conducts training and workshop sessions on all aspects of information literacyand available resources that support learning, teaching and research needs of students and faculty
Performs proper cataloging of all formats of library materials to facilitate their identification, access, and use
Maintains proper inventory of library resources, including database maintenance for bibliographic and authority records
Essential Qualifications
A degree in Library Science or any other related field (Masters Degree in Library Science preferred)
At minimum five (5) years of experience of working in academic libraries at a senior level
Experience in the library procurement cycle, acquisitions with publishers and online resource providers.
Solid background in cataloging and stock inventory.
Highly knowledgeable in subscription with digital libraries and e-learning materials.
Strong knowledge of library techniques and technical services.
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills (Arabic language a plus).
Proficiency in the use of electronic resources and strong knowledge of the publishing industry.
Ability to lead and deal professionally with faculty, students, staff, publishers and external parties.
Candidates must be currently residing in UAE.
Appointees are entitled to a tax-free salary that commensurate with rank and experience, a renewable contract with end-of-service gratuity, annual leave and medical insurance.
