We are seeking a highly specialized and detail-oriented
Cross-Border Accountant
to oversee our complete financial operations in both the United States and Canada, leveraging
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC)
as the core platform. T
This role requires expert-level technical accounting skills, deep familiarity with BC, and specific expertise in complex cross-border tax compliance (US Sales & Use Tax, Canadian GST/HST).
Key Responsibilities
ERP & General Accounting Management
Serve as the primary accounting power user and subject matter expert for
Dynamics 365 Business Central
.
Manage the
General Ledger (G/L)
, ensuring accurate month-end and year-end close processes for multiple legal entities in both the US and Canada.
Maintain and optimize the BC
Chart of Accounts
and
Financial Dimensions
for unified, cross-border reporting.
Manage accurate
multi-currency
transactions and foreign exchange revaluation within the BC environment.
processes, including customer invoicing, vendor bill processing, and payment management.
Ensure accurate data migration and reconciliation of open A/R and A/P balances during onboarding or system updates.
Process and reconcile payroll data (including US Form W-2 and Canadian T4 G/L postings) generated by integrated third-party payroll providers.
Advanced Tax & Cross-Border Compliance
Canadian Tax (GST/HST):
Maintain and optimize BC's
Tax Posting Setup
to accurately calculate and track Canadian
GST/HST
and Provincial Sales Taxes (PST/QST).
Accurately record and manage
Input Tax Credits (ITCs)
on all purchase transactions.
Prepare and generate required Canadian tax statements and manage the tax settlement process in BC for remittance to the CRA.
US Tax (Sales & Use Tax):
Manage US Sales Tax compliance, which may include maintaining complex
Tax Jurisdictions
and
Tax Details
in BC for various State, County, and City rates.
Manage and maintain the integration with an external tax calculation service (e.g.,
Avalara AvaTax
) for real-time sales and use tax calculation based on customer location and economic nexus.
Ensure proper self-assessment and accrual of
Use Tax
on US-based purchases.
Ensure compliance with US vendor reporting requirements, including annual
Form 1099
preparation (either through BC's features or an integrated tool).
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. A professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA) is highly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a company with international (US/Canada) operations.
Mandatory:
Proven, hands-on expertise with
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or Dynamics NAV)
.
Specific, demonstrated experience with
US Sales & Use Tax calculation and filing
and
Canadian GST/HST/PST accounting and ITC recovery
.
Skills:
Expert knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS, as well as Canadian ASPE.
Prior experience setting up or maintaining an ERP integration with a tax solution (e.g., Avalara).
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to manage complex reporting structures across different regulatory environments.
