The Zoological Support Manager oversees and anticipates the daily operations of the Arctic area, which includes but not limited to animal training, colleagues and animal collection. Teaches proper husbandry procedures, conditioning techniques and presentation skills. Ensures a safe and exciting animal interactions.
This position is also responsible for trainings, schedules, attendance, performance management and continuous professional development of the team.
The job scope also includes:
Plans and manages the schedules and tasks assignments of the team
Leads the team while ensuring proper training and development in accordance with department\'s guidelines; monitors daily operations activities, performance management and evaluates competencies
Applies proficient behavioral modification techniques. This includes, but is not limited in developing and implementing new behavior, training of na\xc3\xafve animals with minimum supervision, training behavior to completion without supervision, proactively maintaining conditioned behavior, and the ability to form relationships with most, if not all, of the animals in assigned area.
Maintains and improves the high standards of animal care and welfare at SWAD facilities that meet or exceed all professional zoo/aquarium accreditation standards
Establishes and maintains a positive atmosphere, which ensures the highest level of ambassador performance and guest services while enforcing and complying with safety procedures and guidelines.
Consistently practices safe work habits including, but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment, lifting and reporting of unsafe situations
Encourages and demonstrates confidentiality and professional communication internally and with all departments that interact with the Zoological department
Provides excellent service to guests and ambassadors
Collaborates with the Zoological leadership, other sections and departments
Assists the section\'s leadership on the budget, capital and operating expense planning
Assists with exhibit designs and enhancements
Assists with animal acquisition and disposition
Performs other duties as assigned by the leadership
To be considered for the role, you will need to have:
High School diploma, Bachelor\'s degree, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience, related to Zoological field
Minimum of 6 years in a professionally related Zoological field
Preferred experience working small and large tractable animals
Open Water/SCUBA certified
Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and guest relations skills
Excellent swimming and diving skills
Strong leadership skills
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
Strong knowledge of instructional design and curriculum development
