As a Zoological Specialist in the Zoo Support & Rescue section, you will ensure a smooth and efficient operations of the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi facilities in Zoological Department by safely fulfilling the duties in animal/guest interactions, animal training, husbandry, enrichment, general public presentations, and research. This position requires standing in a prolonged period, moves/lifts up to 25-30kgs of load; also requires working in varying shifts based on business need. This includes opening, mid, and closing shifts, nights, weekends and holidays. The job scope also includes:
Daily food preparation
Cleaning tanks/enclosures and facility
Feeding/caring for sea turtles
Coordinating rescues and organizing logistics
All aspects of general animal husbandry
Maintenance task to operate the turtle rehabilitation facility (operating pool pump, sea pump, heat pump
General property maintenance (cleaning, mowing, raking, sweeping, swimming pool maintenance etc.)
Assist with the rehabilitation of sea turtles with direct animal care including feeding, cleaning, medical procedures and care, rescues, releases, water quality, tank cleaning, maintenance of systems and habitat and a variety of other tasks
Marine mammal rescue involves capture, handling, and transport
Assessing distressed marine mammals
Working independently and in small teams
Utilizing hoop net and floating net capture systems
Capturing and carrying marine mammals of all sizes
Working on jetties, shorelines, beaches, and piers
Performs other duties as assigned
To be considered for this role, you will need to have:
High School diploma and/or degree in Psychology, Zoology or Biology or equivalent
2 years of relatable animal experience in a professional setting
Basic understanding of marine mammal, avian, and reptilian husbandry/rescue/rehabilitation techniques
Sea turtle rehabilitation and medicine experience preferred
Experience with drawing blood, preparing, and understanding blood chemistry, shoot radiographs, administer injections, assist in surgeries, tube feed, and all related duties on a sea turtle preferred
Detail oriented and self-motivated
Physically fit and excellent swimming skills as you will be expected to participate in sea turtle rescues in and out of the water
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Basic computer knowledge including MS Office and animal recording system
Ability to successfully pass an area swim test within the first 60 days of hire or holding a Certification in Open Water SCUBA
