Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Work Preparator/Designer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating detailed designs, models, and fabrication drawings for complex projects within the marine and structural sectors. You will play a critical role in translating engineering concepts into practical, executable work packages for fabrication and construction, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities

  • Detailed Design & Modeling: Create and develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for piping systems, marine mechanical equipment, and steel structures using AutoCAD, PDS, and PDMS software.
  • Work Preparation: Prepare comprehensive work packages, including isometric drawings, fabrication drawings, material take-offs (MTOs), and bills of materials (BOMs) for the production and construction teams.
  • Model Coordination: Perform clash detection and resolve spatial conflicts within the 3D model environment to ensure design integrity and constructability.
  • Technical Documentation: Ensure all drawings and documents comply with project specifications, relevant industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, ISO), and company quality procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and production personnel to clarify design intent, resolve technical issues, and support the successful execution of projects.
  • Design Review: Participate in internal and client design reviews, incorporating feedback and making necessary revisions to the models and drawings.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest improvements to design processes, standards, and tools to enhance productivity and quality.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
  • A Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Marine, Structural, or a related field).
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a similar Work Preparator or Designer role within the marine, offshore, oil & gas, or heavy engineering industries.
  • High proficiency in essential design software:
  • AutoCAD (2D drafting is fundamental).
  • PDS (Plant Design System) and/or PDMS (Plant Design Management System) for 3D modeling.
  • Strong understanding of design principles for at least one of the following specializations:
  • Piping: P&IDs, isometrics, pipe supports, and specifications.
  • Mechanical (Marine): Outfitting, hull equipment, machinery arrangement, and marine systems.
  • Structural: Steelwork, foundations, and structural details.
Desirable:
  • Experience with other 3D design software (e.g., E3D, SolidWorks, Tekla).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and classification society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyds).
  • Experience in performing clash detection and model reviews.
  • Familiarity with laser scanning and point cloud data.
