Job Description

Job Purpose:

To operate winches and related lifting equipment safely and efficiently for the movement, lifting, and positioning of loads as per project or operational requirements, while strictly adhering to safety procedures and load-handling protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric winches for lifting or positioning heavy equipment, cargo, or structures. Perform pre-use inspections and daily checks on winch systems and associated rigging equipment. Ensure proper load securing, slinging, and signaling in coordination with the riggers and lifting supervisor. Follow hand and radio signals during lifting and movement operations, ensuring compliance with lifting plans and risk assessments. Maintain communication with deck crew, crane operator, rigging team, and supervisors during all operations. Monitor loads, winch speed, tension, and cable spooling to ensure safe handling and prevent overloading. Assist with general deck or site duties, including rigging, housekeeping, and equipment checks when not operating. Report any mechanical faults or safety issues immediately to the supervisor or maintenance team. Adhere to all company HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards and participate in toolbox talks, drills, and safety meetings.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong understanding of winch operation and basic lifting techniques Familiar with load charts, sling angles, hand signals, and tag line use Good coordination, situational awareness, and communication skills Ability to work under pressure in offshore or high-risk environments Knowledge of offshore safety standards and PPE usage
