The Role

Purpose Shell is expanding its upstream operations in the Sultanate of Oman which will include drilling of exploration, appraisal and development wells, and field development studies. The Well Delivery Lead will spearhead a team of Petroleum Engineers and Geoscientists responsible for the maturation of well proposals and well functional specification and the evaluation of subsurface data in support of data acquisition operations for exploration, appraisal and development drilling in Oman. The Well Delivery Manager will report to the GM Development & Subsurface. Accountabilities
  • In cooperation with Well Engineering, implement a state of the art Well Delivery Process and implement opportunities for lean and continuous improvements of the delivery of wells.
  • Coordinate with the Subsurface Manager and the Exploration Lead to define the well objectives, well functional specifications and data gathering specifications for each well.
  • Coordinate with multiple parties on optimising the drilling sequence and ensuring flexibility and optionality in the drilling sequence by timely maturation of well proposals.
  • Ensure quality of all subsurface data gathering by delivery of quality plans, coordination of supervision of operations and timely evaluation and quality control.
  • Expected to be a role model in a safety culture of Goal Zero and ensure safety and integrity are forefront in the day-to-day planning and execution of wells, including process safety and compliance to subsurface Design & Engineering Practices for well delivery.
  • Ensure that all subsurface well delivery plans are compliant with the corporate technical assurance framework.
  • Together with Front-End Development Manager, responsible for ensuring technical alignment on well planning and funding with the joint venture partners.
  • Support and advise the Front-End Development Manager with all well delivery aspects of the project; support embedment of competitive scoping into the well delivery plans.
  • Ensure all data and information obtained from the wells is documented and stored compliant with the corporate guidelines.
  • Participate in peer reviews, project assists, and formal project reviews with the objective of ensuring projects are properly assured in advance of key decision gates.
  • Ensure that subsurface knowledge, data and information is timely and efficiently shared between the Subsurface Development Team, the Pilot Maturation Team and the Exploration Team.
  • Manage contracts related to wireline logging, data gathering and sample storage, transport and analysis.
  • Support the Business Planning (BP) and Work Program and Budget (WP&B) exercise, providing input on the latest Scope, Cost and Schedule.
  • Coordinate with the Technology Lead to ensure that opportunities to mature technology related to data gathering and frac delivery are realised in new wells.
  • Be an involved member of the Upstream Development Leadership team and contribute to reservoir modelling studies, and to overall technical and economical evaluations of the development opportunities.
  • Provide the training ground for young professionals in the petroleum engineering and geoscience disciplines.
  • Drive and embed artificial intelligence, digitalization and automated standardized workflows to day to day well delivery processes
Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Candidates must carry the nationality of the Sultanate of Oman
  • Minimum qualification of BSc in Geology, Geophysics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years experience in the upstream oil and gas industry in a variety of subsurface roles
  • Minimum 5 years experience in well delivery processes.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated coaching/mentoring capacity likely have experience as either a well delivery lead or project lead.
  • Candidates should have a broad knowledge of all subsurface evaluation disciplines.
  • Experience with the successful implementation of lean processes will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of well and reservoir surveillance and operational experience is desirable.
  • Experience with tight gas and/or unconventional development will be desirable.
  • Strong team player with corresponding inter-personal skills.
  • Effective communicator and influencer
