Assist in the delivery of patient care as directed by the registered nurse. Contribute to the general environment of the hospital and the well-being of the patient, families and team members as a member of the nursing team.
Responsibilities:
Assist patients with non-medical care and ward-related duties under the supervision of a nurse
Respond promptly to patient or family requests, prioritizing patient safety and satisfaction
Attend call bells or alarms in patient rooms and report to the nurse accordingly
Conduct hourly patient rounding to check on comfort and assistance needs
Receive non-clinical responsibilities each shift from the nurse
Assist nurses with patient hygiene, elimination, mobility, physical comfort, eating, and drinking, while observing and reporting any changes to the licensed nurse
Clean trolleys used before and after patient care and replace consumables
Assist nurses with obtaining patient height and weight measurements
Support nurses in maintaining patient elimination
Know hospital-approved disinfectants and their proper usage
Clean biomedical equipment according to hospital policies
Maintain cleanliness in patient rooms, nursing stations, and departmental areas; ensure surfaces, computers, and phones are cleaned daily
Collaborate with housekeeping to maintain overall department cleanliness, including children's play areas
Check hand sanitizers at the beginning of shifts and inform housekeeping for replacement
Liaise with nurses and patients in OPD to support patient satisfaction and provide updates on bed availability and waiting times
Replace sharps containers when 2/3 full or when expired, per hospital policy
Maintain cleanliness of soiled utility rooms and coordinate with laundry for hampers; keep records of linen types and quantities
Collect clean linen from laundry
Maintain supply and storage areas; clean supply boxes regularly
Ensure pantry cleanliness and coordinate with nurses and dietary team to manage trays
Transport specimens to the laboratory
Comply with patient confidentiality policies
Act as a messenger when required
Escort stable patients by wheelchair or assist with bed transport to and from departments, including Radiology and Operating Theatre
Accompany discharged patients to exits and assist safely into vehicles; use wheelchairs for maternity patients
Assist in preparing and cleaning patient rooms for admission/discharge; provide necessary supplies such as tissues and water
Report lost or broken items/equipment to nurses after cleaning rooms
Ensure biomedical equipment is cleaned after discharge, returned to the equipment room, and plugged in
Arrange oxygen cylinders properly and report when empty
Perform daily room checks and complete the environment checklist
Maintain records of borrowed items and follow up to ensure return
Transport instruments to CSSD for sterilization and collect sterilized items; check monthly CSSD sets for expiry or damage
Maintain department curtains according to hospital policy and ensure replacement curtains are available
Collect general, stationary, and medication items from store and pharmacy
Participate in scheduled educational activities
Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures
Work according to documented OSH procedures and instructions
Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
Be familiar with patient safety goals relevant to daily activities
Notify nurses of OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, or concerns
Comply with waste management and transmission-based precaution policies and procedures
Assist nurses with completing departmental inventories
Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training, mock drills, and awareness programs
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety systems
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Some high school education or equivalent
Intermediate English skills preferred; spoken Arabic is advantageous
Demonstrated motivation to work in a healthcare environment
