Job Description

**This position could be based in Estonia (Polva), United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Turkey (Istanbul), Ukraine (Kyiv), Germany (Munich), Switzerland (Basel) or Egypt (Cairo).**
The Vice President, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability will lead Arcera's integrated global strategy for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Environmental Sustainability. This combined role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, risk mitigation, and the embedding of a culture of safety and sustainability throughout the organization. It also drives the strategic execution of Arcera's Environmental Sustainability Program, aligned with leading pharmaceutical industry standards and the company's long-term goals, including decarbonization and net zero commitments.
Reporting to the Chief Compliance and Sustainability Officer, with functional reporting on health & safety topics to the Chief TechOps Officer, the VP works closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to enhance operational resilience, ensure continuous improvement, and align EHS and sustainability objectives with broader business strategies. The role requires strong engagement with global stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to drive performance, readiness, and best-in-class practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute an integrated EHS and Sustainability strategy to mitigate business, environmental, and reputational risks.
  • Ensure alignment of the strategy with Arcera's business objectives, supporting growth, profitability, and competitive advantage.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment to embed sustainability and safety across processes, systems, and culture.
  • Promote an enterprise-wide culture of environmental stewardship, employee well-being, and operational responsibility.
Operational Excellence:
  • Build capability and awareness around EHS and Sustainability throughout the company, integrating best practices and emerging trends.
  • Implement and continuously improve global health, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability systems across all operations.
Crisis and Risk Management
  • Lead the organization's preparedness and response for EHS and environmental risk events.
  • Drive data-informed crisis management and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
Talent & Team Development:
  • Lead and develop high-performing, integrated EHS and Sustainability teams across geographies and functions.
  • Support team growth, succession planning, and a culture of continuous improvement and shared accountability.
Governance and Compliance:
  • Establish global governance frameworks, policies, and performance standards for EHS and Sustainability.
  • Ensure regulatory and internal compliance through audits, assessments, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage actively with external regulatory and industry bodies to stay ahead of evolving compliance landscapes.
  • Oversee EHS and Sustainability budgets, FTEs, and operational resources.
  • Model Arcera values and ensure adherence to all relevant internal policies, SOPs, and compliance requirements.
Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Leadership:
  • Drive execution of Arcera's Environmental Sustainability Program, including mid- and long-term objectives for decarbonization, resource efficiency, and environmental impact reduction.
  • Partner with leadership and functional stakeholders to integrate sustainability goals into business operations and decision-making.
  • Lead sustainability reporting and communication efforts (e.g. Sustainability Report, scorecards, Board updates).
  • Manage engagement with shareholders and regulatory stakeholders regarding Arcera's sustainability agenda.
  • Guide the Sustainability Ambassador Network and foster a sustainability mindset across the organization.
  • Ensure regulatory preparedness and compliance with current and emerging environmental sustainability legislation.
Integrated Function Management & Reporting:
  • Lead the global EHS and Sustainability functions with a focus on strategic alignment, operational efficiency, and high-quality reporting.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators, including decarbonization progress, Scope 3 data, waste reduction, circular economy practices, and ESG due diligence.
  • Support training, upskilling, and team enablement to deliver on strategic objectives.

  • ESG Fluency: Understanding of ESG frameworks, reporting standards, and investor expectations
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Sustainability, Engineering (Environmental/Chemical/Industrial), or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10-15 years of combined EHS and Sustainability leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Minimum 6 years leading environmental sustainability initiatives, ideally in a global or matrixed organization.
  • Proven success in driving global programs and cultural change in multinational companies.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead cross-functional teams and manage large-scale transformation programs.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages are an asset.
