JOB DESCRIPTION : VETERINARY NURSE

The veterinary nurse is the doctor\xe2\x80\x99s primary medical support person. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis, and treatment phases. They aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with clients about their pets.

A newly developing veterinary clinic needed full time two veterinary nurses. We are seeking superstars who love to work in high quality medicine with a dedicated and well- trained team. We believe that every pet should be treated as if it is our own pet and that every client should be treated like our family. Compassionate care is at the core of who we are. We also rely heavily on our nurses to utilize the skills that they have been trained to use, so expect to be helping with patient care from day one! This job is a long-term commitment as building strong relationships with our clients, patients and fellow staff members is our goal. This is a special practice with exceptional doctors and staff who are dedicated to offering their patients the best of care and developing a culture of excellence. Some weekends required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides compassionate care to patients.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with hospital medical policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas or vehicle.
  • Performs physical examinations; records observations on patients.
  • Assists the doctor in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; assists the doctor in administering anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.
  • Gives injections and administers oral medications in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Performs emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage.
  • Assists in restraining pets when necessary.
  • Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records.
  • Takes radiographs and administers EKGs and EEGs.
  • Admits and discharges patients on the doctor\'s orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state. Counsels clients on various aspects of animal care; explains dosage/purpose of medications; reinforces the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home; makes follow-up calls to clients.
  • Understands usage and dosage for all prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients.
  • Properly cleans all surgical materials after they are used; keeps the opera
  • Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system.
  • Assists other staff members as required.
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
  • Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
Personal Requirements:
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed or ill or in pain.
  • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
  • Is able to work effectively with doctors.
  • Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all hospital staff members.
  • Has excellent client communication skills.
Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods frequently works in a bent position.
  • Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
