Business Need / Purpose of Role
The Head of Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) is responsible for driving and leading Health, Safety, and Environmental culture and processes across Inchcape Shipping Services, partnering across all lines of businesses, and supporting all regions and countries.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Drive a culture of Safety across Inchcape in our global operations at all levels and areas of the organization.
  • Manage HSE as the system of work and maintain ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 certification.
  • Partner with countries/regions to manage operational risks at acceptable level, to eliminate severe accidents, fatalities, occupational ill-health, and pollution.
  • Support, train, and drive Senior Leadership Team to engage and energize the organization around the changes.
  • Facilitate creation of a speak out culture where we learn from our mistakes.
  • Deliver incident investigation support to ISS as and when required.
  • To develop skills and training for the organization and develop HSE team.
  • Support Inchcape Shipping Services Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

  • Ability to develop strong business relationships within all levels of management; ability to understand, influence and persuade across all levels of the organization, exercising a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact, and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing market trends and conditions. Able to function comfortably in a fast-paced environment where each day brings new challenges.
  • Ability to work under pressure, balance multiple tasks, and under different time zones. Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative, exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Ability to motivate and lead virtual teams remotely and the ability to adjust communication style for different situations and cultures.
  • Creative thinker with highly developed analytical skills with very high attention to detail.
  • Strong process improvement background: keen eye to spot areas for improvement, ideate solutions, and see them through to completion.
  • Possession of a systematic and continuous improvement approach to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
  • Possess organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize, be detail oriented and results driven.
  • Possess high energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Possess Change Management Skills (e.g., Learning Agility, Adapting to Change)
  • Must have an advanced communication (verbal, written and listening) skills in order to communicate at different levels throughout the organization and multiple cultures.
  • Fluency in English verbal and written communication skills required. Bilingual/Trilingual a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Outlook and other related applications.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree (BSc) from 4-year college or university in Occupational Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Science, Engineering, or related field. Master\'s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience leading Safety across Global organizations.
  • Leadership experience with large global organizations supporting policy making, regionalization, change management, cultural change, and regional team leadership.
  • Industry experience: logistics and professional services (preferably around ports / shipping)
  • A proven track record of driving change within large, global, complex organizations.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) (or equivalent ex-USA, e.g., EU-OSHA, JISHA, HSE Gov\xe2\x80\x99t UK, SEVESO).
  • Must have strong technical and regulatory knowledge in occupational health and safety and understanding of current Environmental / Sustainability Topics.

Certifications & Licenses:
  • Certifications in the field of HSE such as the CSP, CIH, CHMM or other certifications in the field of EHS are highly desirable.
  • Qualifications in auditing such as lead auditor certification for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are desirable.
