The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy-duty trailers and related components to ensure all auction and transport fleet trailers operate safely and efficiently. The role requires hands-on technical expertise in mechanical systems, hydraulic components, braking systems, and trailer body maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on trailers.
Conduct regular preventive maintenance on trailers as per the maintenance schedule.
Repair and replace worn or damaged trailer parts, including brakes, suspensions, axles, air systems, and bearings.
Perform welding and fabrication work when required.
Ensure all repairs and servicing are completed efficiently and in compliance with company and safety standards.
Maintain accurate service records for each trailer in the workshop system.
Assist in breakdown repairs within auction yards or on-site when required.
Work closely with the procurement team for ordering spare parts and materials.
Report major defects or recurring maintenance issues to the Workshop Supervisor.
Adhere strictly to workshop safety procedures and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Technical Diploma / Certificate in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
Minimum
3 to 5 years
of hands-on experience as a Trailer Mechanic, preferably in an automotive, transport, or auction industry.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems used in heavy-duty trailers.
Experience in brake systems, axle and suspension repair, and trailer bodywork.
Ability to read mechanical drawings and part manuals.
Welding and fabrication skills (MIG/TIG/Arc).
Other Requirements:
Ability to work under pressure and meet repair deadlines.
Basic English communication skills (reading/write).
Strong attention to detail and safety orientation.
Working Conditions:
Workshop-based role; may require fieldwork for on-site trailer repairs.
Exposure to noise, grease, oil, and outdoor weather conditions.
Working hours as per company schedule, with possible overtime during auction or peak periods.
