Overview

+ Transmission Engineer's area of expertise shall be centered on an in-depth knowledge of transmission (Satellite and Microwave Line of Site) equipment assessment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Supports the Government with the overall management of the theater Enterprise transport layer (long haul) communications systems (i.e., Satellite, Microwave Lin Site, and Fiber). The Transmission Engineer serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for all Long haul based equipment within the AOR and have an in-depth knowledge of various types of MUX equipment and is responsible for load balancing of transmissions traffic in order to obtain high network utilization and avoid congestion through traffic shaping, congestion control, bandwidth allocation and flow control.

You must satisfy all host country requirements to legally work in the host country in order to be qualified for this position.

Responsibilities

+ Perform transmissions systems assessment and provide recommended changes that pertain to the transmission architecture to the government based on bandwidth utilization and capabilities of the transmission equipment currently in use in the 160th AOR (Area of Responsibility). Have a strong understanding of Communications Security (COMSEC) equipment and its relationship to transmission based services. Assist with determining the impact of transmission systems in relation to the network and assist with resolving degradation and or outages that are associated with transmission based services.

+ Works with engineers from the 160th Signal Brigade, 335th Theater Signal Command, and DISA Engineering/Implementations to engineer new circuit requirements and manipulate the existing circuit environment to ensure the most efficient use of the RCC-SWA transmissions system based resources.

+ Ability to assist in troubleshooting the network from the Transportation level.

+ Understanding of MS Visio for the purpose of generating and updating Network diagrams.

+ Minimum Qualifications

+ Education:

+ Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferably in Computer Science or MIS, IS, Engineering or related field. One-year related experience can be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.

+ One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for one year of experience up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree in a Software Engineering or Business Information Systems discipline for three years general experience.

+ Experience:

+ At least five (5) years' of practical experience working with various type of transmission based (i.e., Satellite and Microwave Line of Site) technologies.

+ Understanding of transmission plans/orders.

+ Understanding of signal flow from the transmission level down to the multiplexer (MUX) based equipment.

+ Strong troubleshooting background as it pertains to the transmission based equipment.
