Trade Finance Analyst

Job Description

The Trade Finance Analyst supports the company's physical trading, marketing and supply activities by managing all trade-related financial instruments, ensuring timely availability of credit lines, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and banks to execute transactions smoothly. The role ensures that Letters of Credit, guarantees, collections, and payment structures are optimised and compliant with internal policies, market standards and regulatory requirements.
The analyst will support crude, refined products, gas, chemicals and shipping transactions across global markets.
Key Responsibilities
Trade Finance Operations
Prepare, issue, amend and monitor Letters of Credit (LCs), Standby LCs, bank guarantees, and collections documents for crude and refined product transactions.
Coordinate with traders, operations, contracts and shipping teams to ensure trade finance documentation aligns with contractual and operational requirements.
Review commercial contracts and identify trade finance implications (payment terms, Incoterms, credit/security clauses, documents required, etc.).
Ensure timely settlement of trades, freight, demurrage and related charges through appropriate banking instruments.
Banking, Credit & Risk
Liaise with local and international banks to obtain competitive trade finance pricing, credit lines and confirmation terms.
Support credit assessments of counterparties, including monitoring payment performance, exposure levels and collateral requirements.
Review KYC, sanctions, compliance requirements, and ensure adherence to corporate governance and financial control frameworks.
Assist in monitoring treasury exposures, including FX, liquidity, and working capital linked to trading flows.
Documentation & Controls
Prepare and verify all trade-related financial documents: invoices, packing lists, BLs, COQs, insurance certificates, LC documentation, and guarantee requests.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of trade finance transactions in internal systems (ERP, CTRM, treasury platforms).
Support monthly reconciliation of trade finance positions, outstanding LCs, guarantees and cashflows.
Maintain high-quality audit trails and documentation for internal and external audits.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with traders, trading operations, shipping, treasury, legal, risk and accounting teams to support the end-to-end trade lifecycle.
Coordinate with inspection companies, terminals, agents and counterparties as needed on documentation accuracy and deadlines.
Participate in process improvements and digitalisation initiatives to enhance trade finance efficiency and control.
Analytics & Reporting
Prepare regular reports on trade finance utilisation, bank exposure, LC expiry schedules, guarantee usage and working capital metrics.
Analyse trade flows to optimise financing structures and reduce operational and financial risk.
Support management with ad hoc analysis related to liquidity, credit exposure and deal structures.
