Job Description

PURPOSE:

Responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operations of the sludge thermal drying facility within the wastewater treatment plant. This role ensures optimal performance of drying equipment, effective coordination of operations and maintenance (O&M) activities, and adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements. The coordinator also supervises staff, manages resources, and liaises with other departments to achieve operational excellence.

ROLES & RESPOSIBILITIES

:

Manage the daily operation of the sludge thermal drying plant, including equipment, conveyors, dryers, scrubbers, and ancillary systems.

Monitor process performance and implement adjustments to optimize energy use, throughout, and product quality (dried sludge/biosolids).

Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to emissions, odors, and dried sludge disposal/reuse.

Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with the O&M teams.

Supervise and schedule operators, technicians, and support staff.

Maintain operational records, logs, and compliance reports for management and regulatory entities.

Oversee calibration and reliability of process control instruments related to temperature, moisture, and emissions monitoring.

Implement and enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards within the thermal drying facility.

Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of plant upsets, breakdowns, or performance deviations.

Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance strategies, and emergency response plans.

Coordinate with the wastewater treatment plant operations to align sludge feedstock and disposal schedules.

Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluation of plant staff.

Carry out other tasks assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5 years experience in the same field.

COMPETENCIES:

Strong background in thermal drying technologies, incineration, or biomass/energy recovery systems.

Knowledge of wastewater sludge characteristics and handling.

Familiarity with plant automation systems, SCADA, and process controls.

Demonstrated experience in managing O&M teams within an industrial or utility environment.

Understanding of environmental regulations, emissions standards, and waste management requirements.

Proficient in data reporting, analysis, and technical documentation.

Strong computer literacy (MS Office, CMMS, SCADA).

Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies or process upsets.

EDUCATION:

Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Technology, or similar

OTHERS:

UPDA Certification/To obtain this year
