At the University of Vienna up to three the positions of a

Tenure-Track Professorship
for the field of
Information and Communication Technology
(full-time position) are to be filled.

We are looking for applicants who address fundamental scientific questions in information technology, communication technology or both. The willingness of the candidates to actively participate in the inter- and transdisciplinary research community of the University of Vienna is expected. The call is open to all topics and areas in Information and Communication Technology. Proposals from computer scientists are especially welcome.

The selection follows a two-stage process: In stage one applicants apply for a tenure track professorship at the University of Vienna (deadline 24 November 2022). In stage two, applicants apply for a WWTF grant together with a proponent from the University of Vienna of the applicant's choice (deadline in Spring 2023, see ).

Candidates who receive such a WWTF grant, which amounts up to EUR 1.6 for a total of 6-8 years, will be offered an Assistant Professorship with tenure track from the University of Vienna.

Successful candidates should have the following qualifications:
Doctoral degree/PhD and two to eight years post-doctoral research experience; care duties may extend this period up to four years.
Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
Experience in designing and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
Enthusiasm for excellent teaching, teaching experience at universities or a teaching concept. Candidates are expected to be willing to teach students at all levels (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral level), to supervise academic theses and to promote junior colleagues
Eligible for the WWTF grant are applicants with (i) no employment contract with an Austrian institution within three months before the submission deadline and until the decision date of WWTF board of directors, (ii) being employed at a foreign research institution for at least two years in the last three years counting from the submission deadline.
The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor's programmes and for participation in university committees.

We offer:
the opportunity to obtain a permanent position and eventual promotion to full professor. A successful candidate is hired as "Assistant professor" for a maximum duration of six years. If the candidate meets the conditions stipulated in the qualification agreement, the assistant professor is promoted to tenured "associate professor", i.e. obtains a permanent position. If the conditions are not met, the employment will end upon expiry of the contract. Associate professors can be promoted to "full professor" through a university-internal competitive procedure.
