Time: 10am to 2pm Technician - Fire Fighting Systems
Position Title: Fire Fighting Systems Technician
Department: Maintenance / Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor or HSE Manager
Objective:
To ensure the optimal functionality, reliability, and compliance of all active fire protection systems through systematic preventive maintenance, prompt corrective repairs, and accurate documentation in accordance with NFPA standards and local Civil Defense regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Inspection:

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on all fire fighting equipment and systems.
• Conduct routine inspections, testing, and servicing of:
• Fire pumps (electric & diesel), jockey pumps, and associated controllers.
• Water-based systems: sprinklers, wet/dry risers, hydrants, hose reels, and monitors.
• Portable fire extinguishers (recharge, replace, and hydrostatic testing as required).
• Gas suppression systems (e.g., FM-200, CO2) - including cylinder pressure checks and nozzle inspections.
• Fire suppression systems for commercial kitchens (Ansul systems).

Corrective Action & Repairs:

• Diagnose faults and perform corrective maintenance to restore system integrity.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and system impairments, minimizing downtime.
• Repair or replace defective components such as valves, pipes, fittings, gauges, and pump parts.
• Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs or annual certifications as needed.

Compliance & Documentation:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and tests.
• Generate detailed service reports, deficiency reports, and parts usage logs.
• Ensure all work complies with NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 25, NFPA 10) and local Civil Defense authority requirements.
• Prepare equipment for and assist during annual third-party inspections and audits.

General Duties:

• Maintain a clean, organized workshop and inventory of critical spares.
• Participate in emergency drills and provide technical support during real incidents.
• Stay updated on new technologies, codes, and best practices in fire protection.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Safety, or a related field, or equivalent technical certification.
• Proven experience (2-5 years) as a Fire Fighting Systems Technician.
• In-depth knowledge of fire pump operation, sprinkler systems, and hydraulic calculations.
• Familiarity with NFPA standards and local fire safety regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and schematics.
• Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, at heights, and lift heavy equipment.
• Valid driver's license and certification from local Civil Defense authorities (preferred).
