Job Description

Job Summary:
The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, dishwashing areas, and food service areas. They ensure that all dishes, utensils, and equipment are properly cleaned, stored, and maintained. The Steward plays a crucial role in supporting kitchen operations by maintaining hygiene standards and assisting with basic food preparation tasks when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cleaning & Sanitation:

  • Wash dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, and pans using dishwashers or by hand.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and work areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
  • Dispose of waste properly and maintain garbage disposal areas.
  • Clean floors, walls, shelves, and storage areas in the kitchen and dishwashing sections.
2. Equipment Maintenance:
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing machines, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment to supervisors.
  • Assist in the proper storage of kitchen tools and equipment.
3. Kitchen Support:
  • Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks (e.g., peeling, cutting, and storing ingredients).
  • Transport food and supplies between storage and kitchen areas.
  • Help in receiving and organizing food deliveries.
4. Compliance & Safety:
  • Follow health and safety regulations (HACCP, OSHA) to prevent contamination.
  • Use cleaning chemicals safely and store them appropriately.
  • Wear proper protective gear (gloves, aprons, etc.) as required.
