Job Title: Steel Fixer

Job Summary:

A Steel Fixer is responsible for positioning and securing steel bars or mesh in concrete forms in order to reinforce concrete structures such as buildings, bridges, roads, and other construction projects. The role requires reading technical drawings, cutting and bending steel, and ensuring proper installation according to engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints. Cut, bend, and shape steel bars and mesh using hand tools or machinery. Position and secure steel reinforcement bars (rebar) or mesh in formwork before concrete is poured. Tie steel bars together using wire, clips, or welding. Ensure that all work complies with safety and structural standards. Collaborate with other construction professionals such as concrete workers, site managers, and engineers. Inspect completed work to ensure proper installation and alignment. Operate and maintain steel cutting and bending equipment safely.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or in a similar role. Ability to read and understand construction blueprints and technical plans. Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and bending/cutting machinery. Good physical strength, stamina, and hand-eye coordination. Basic math skills for measurements and calculations. Awareness of safety procedures and ability to follow health and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Steel Fixing or Construction (or equivalent certification). Valid CSCS card (UK) or relevant safety certification depending on country. Experience working on large-scale construction projects.

Working Conditions:

Full-time, typically outdoors on construction sites. Exposure to varying weather conditions. May involve working at heights or in confined spaces. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
