Job Summary

The Steel Fitter / Steel Fixer is responsible for cutting, bending, shaping, and assembling steel reinforcement bars and mesh for concrete structures as per drawings and project specifications. The role also ensures proper installation and alignment of steel reinforcements in compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret and follow construction drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and project plans Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel bars and mesh using hand and power tools Install reinforcement bars, stirrups, ties, and supports as per structural requirements Assemble and fix rebar cages and mesh for concrete structures (slabs, columns, beams, foundations, etc.) Tie steel bars securely with appropriate methods to ensure stability Set and position bars and mesh in molds, formwork, and frameworks Assist in concrete pouring and monitor movement and alignment of reinforcements Operate cutting and bending machinery when required Ensure reinforcement works follow engineering standards and specifications Maintain safe and clean work environment; follow site HSE guidelines Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and co-workers to meet project timelines Identify and report safety hazards, quality concerns, or material shortages Proper handling, storage, and usage of tools and equipment

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a Steel Fitter/Steel Fixer in the construction industry Experience in reinforced concrete structures and large-scale projects preferred Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and BBS schedules Good knowledge of steel fabrication tools and equipment Strong physical stamina and ability to work in outdoor and site environments Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills Ability to follow safety protocols and quality procedures
