Job Summary

Technology and Innovation Petrochemicals consists of more than 750 employees across six Technology Centers around the world. The T&I organization supports This Company\'s global businesses in realizing its objectives by providing best-in-class technology solutions. The primary activity of Feedstock & Cracker MEA department is to define and deploy technology development projects aimed at the optimization and improvement of existing petrochemical processes and development of new ones. We are looking for a Lead Scientist to join our team. The role is reporting to the Sr. Manager Feedstock & Cracker MEA.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technology support to This Company\'s world-scale Olefins plants with a focus on technology improvement projects for overall process optimization.
  • Analyze key process trends using statistical tools and translate findings into actionable recommendations to enhance plant safety, improve performance, reduce operating expenditure, and increase process reliability.
  • Troubleshoot chronic plant issues, identify benchmarking performance gaps, develop technical solutions, and prepare technical reports to close gaps based on in-depth analysis of plant data.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary setting within the T&I organization, collaborating with different disciplines in the business and manufacturing environment where project approval, execution, and implementation need to be secured.
  • Identify, develop, and implement short-, mid-, and long-term technology projects in Ethylene Steam-Crackers (Liquid/Gas/Mixed) for overall process optimization.
  • Lead Olefins plant troubleshooting efforts to ensure accurate and effective technology solutions are provided in a timely manner to address chronic plant issues.
  • Apply robust scientific methodologies and utilize statistical tools to analyze and interpret complex plant data, and develop simulation, predictive modeling, and analysis tools for resolving technical issues in plants.
  • Lead and assist in identifying, assessing, and developing key carbon-neutral or decarbonization technologies for Olefins plants.
  • Conduct due diligence and feasibility studies on emerging technologies and advancements in Olefins. Prepare technology white papers to translate technical knowledge into relevant recommendations and guidance for senior management.
  • Support the Olefins Business Unit in the evaluation of large grassroots petrochemical complex studies, capacity expansions, asset improvements assessment, and other strategic business initiatives such as refinery integration with steam cracker.
  • Develop novel patentable concepts, leading to the development of intellectual property.
Requirements:
  • This role required candidate to permanently relocate at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Academic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Chemical Engineering is required; a Master or PhD in Engineering is preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum 11 years of relevant industrial experience (petrochemicals or refinery) with at least 3+ years of experience in Olefins process technology.
  • Experience in Olefins process technology from various feedstock (Ethane, Propane, Butane, Naphtha, etc...) including alternative technologies for steam crackers with focus on technology plant support through process optimization, conceptual design development, energy optimization, and debottlenecking utilizing process modeling tools.
  • Experience with refinery integration with steam cracker related projects is desirable.
  • Preferably experience in steam cracking process, reaction engineering, separation thermodynamics, modeling, and the use of computational tools such as ASPEN Plus/HYSYS, Petro-SIM, HTRI, and others.
  • Experience in process engineering from manufacturing and/or technology licensor would be an added advantage.
  • Strong mentorship skills and the ability to guide the development of young engineers.
  • A team player with the ability to work independently on your contribution.
  • Keen on project management and possessing good project management skills.
