Provide direct clinical care, to patients with Speech, language and swallowing difficulties, which encompasses speech therapy assessment, treatment and management of patients referred to the department.
To be able to execute patient care independently and report to the relevant senior and/ or other health professionals when applicable.
To be responsible for managing his/her patient caseload independently which includes, providing appropriate appointments, and planning discharge with equipment allocation if required.
Independently provide a comprehensive assessment/examination, interpret results and provide Speech and language therapy treatment plan for individual patients.
Performs diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluates communication and swallowing functions of patients.
Provides observations about hearing and other behavior to help determine the need for other services.
Interprets and reports test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
Determines therapeutic plan, including the need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention and duration of therapy.
Selects appropriate assistive speech devices to improve patient\xe2\x80\x99s communication
Provides counseling and education about communication and diagnosis to patients and their families
Maintains speech pathology equipment and materials
Manage an individual caseload of patients effectively and efficiently.
Maintain patient documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and meet professional standards. To be able to summarize care provided and prepare discharge reports.
Communicate and make recommendations to all relevant disciplines of staff to ensure effective delivery of care and promote multidisciplinary team working.
Ensure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs, recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
Designate suitable cases according to experience to reporting staff
Liase with medical insurance department, to follow up with physiotherapy insurance approvals and provide appropriate documentation to ensure prompt approval of referred cases.
Work independently to provide on-call care to support delivery of the service to acutely ill patients.
To supervise junior staff if required.
Liase with other healthcare practioners.
To maintain knowledge and skills according to current practice and literature.
Provide consultation within their expertise and determine when patients/clients need to be referred to another healthcare professional.
Requirements:
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Speech & Hearing, or Speech Language Pathology
Mastered Degree in in Speech & Hearing, or Speech Language Pathology will be preferred
Minimum 2 years post graduate experience as a Respiratory Therapist in relevant experience with patients with same diagnosis as seen in Rehab Facilities.
DOH (previously known as HAAD) or DHA license
