Job Description

In this role, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assess and meet the needs of children and adolescents attending the center. This work will require planning, evaluating, organizing, and conducting speech and language therapy programs to help children with a diverse range of communication needs, including language delay, language disorder, autism, global developmental delay, social communication difficulties, speech disorders, hearing impairment and dysfluency. As part of the SLT team, you will administer speech and language evaluations and assessments, develop treatment plans, monitor progress for each child on his/her caseload and promote a functional, clinical approach to intervention, encompassing educational attainment, participation in the education experience, life aspirations and general well-being. The position requires independent clinical judgment, well-developed communication skills, and the ability to work well with co-workers and families of clients. General

Clinical Work
  • Independently manage a highly specialized and complex caseload of children and young people with special needs. This includes providing comprehensive assessments using a range of specialist assessments/techniques.
  • Work in line with the center\xe2\x80\x99s client-centered approach to intervention with a strong emphasis on joined goal setting with clients, parents, and carers.
  • Design, oversee and deliver intervention programmes to maximize learning potential and develop functional communication skills.
  • Work as part of a team to develop therapy management plans for clients.
  • Monitor and review the progress of clients against therapy plans and set goals, modifying these goals as appropriate.
  • Ensure systems are in place for regular reporting and feedback to parents regarding progress towards communication target.
  • Develop appropriate home programs for clients when applicable.
  • Offer advice and support to parents of clients with communication needs through phone, email, and meeting contact
  • Demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice with peers and clinical supervisor.
  • Work with others to improve the effectiveness of service delivery
  • Train other professionals in therapy delivery
  • Be involved in the planning and implementation of parent advice services
  • Advise line manager on issues of service delivery including shortfalls and pressures on therapy service delivery within the clinic and service pressures.
  • Share assessment outcomes with all relevant stakeholders, including The Director, to ensure a shared understanding of clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs
  • Attend case review meetings
  • Undertake general administrative tasks, such as compiling reports and clinical notes based on sessions, making telephone calls, and maintaining records and case notes.
  • Ensure all aspects of the sessions, including parent discussions, are documented.
  • Ensure clinical notes reflect good clinical reasoning and best practice possible.
  • Ensure reports are printed, signed, and handed to admin for filling once completed.
  • Upon resignation or termination, ensure that all progress reports are updated and completed.
  • Ensure each client within the department has a therapy management plan in place
  • Review assessment reports for quality of content and writing following the protocol.
  • Ensure reports are completed on time and forwarded as expected.
  • Ensure that department-specific policies and procedures such as assessment policy and procedure, referral policy and procedure are strictly implemented.
Staff Development
  • Help grow the department and assist management in recruiting new speech and language therapists.
  • Contribute to planning the development of the Therapy departments across the center.
  • Deliver in-service training to SLT staff.
  • Maintain professional expertise by actively engaging in CPD. Staying up to date with latest discussions and findings relating to SLT, by reviewing professional publications; establishing personal/professional networks; and participating in professional societies. Ensure your team members do the same.
  • Work together as a solid team, always supporting each other to advance the department and grow client base.
  • Coordinate with upper-management training courses and workshop to help advance the SLT department.
Financial Responsibility
  • Monitor and maintain resource levels and request new equipment, which best suit the needs of clients across the center.
  • Ensure the SLT department is continuously generating income to fund the growth and development of the center.
  • Maintain all speech and language therapy equipment, ensuring it remains in excellent working order by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer\'s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Report equipment failure, safety or security issues to the center manager
Internal and External Links
  • To demonstrate positive interaction with co-workers, clients, and families, treating all with respect and responsiveness to their needs.
  • To demonstrate adaptability to new people, procedures, and situations.
  • To listen openly and apply suggestions made by Center Manager/ Clinical Director. Perform related duties as assigned.
  • To attend staff and in-service meetings, with the opportunity to occasionally lead a portion of the in-service training.
  • To mediate parents\xe2\x80\x99 concerns and provide positive support for student and family issues.
  • To provide advice to parents through individual and group meetings, seminars, and workshops
  • To ensure timely follow-up on clinic agenda.
  • To network with other schools and professional bodies to identify leading practice.
  • To represent the SLT department in meetings with external agencies.
Requirements:
  • A degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Minimum of three-year experience
  • A valid license
