Role Description: Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) Role Purpose: To provide educational and teaching support for those students with special needs taking into considerations students’ individual differences and needs. Person Specifications:

Reporting to: Deputy Principal Role Requirements Language: Excellent standard of written and oral English Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education
Master’s Degree in Education with specialization in Special Education
Years of School Experience:
5 years teaching experience
Supervisory experience
Previous experience in the Gulf region is preferred
Other:
Clearance of criminal background check from country of hire prior to arrival in UAE
Clearance of security check for Resident visa as per UAE Employment rules prior to arrival in UAE
Clearance of physical medical examination upon arrival in UAE
Clearance of police check upon arrival in UAE
Authenticated and attested academic qualifications and teaching credentials
Role Functions:
Support the development and implementation of the special education initiatives;
Assess individual learning needs of students with disabilities or identified as gifted and / or talented
Promote the welfare and interests of students with disabilities
Provide access to the curriculum through teaching, adapted equipment and materials, accessible settings, lessons, and other involvements
Develop and implement professional development plans with teachers and classroom assistants within the areas of assessment, curriculum, teaching, learning, specialist behaviour skills and others
Promote independent learning and social skills in order to contribute to self-sufficiency and success in school and community
Liaise with parents, social service and school nursing functions to promote inclusion for students with disabilities
Work with teachers to develop and implement Individual education Plans (IEPs) for students with special education needs
Compile, review and regularly update the school’s SEN register
Organize learning outside the classroom
Collaborate with classroom assistants to define appropriate activities for students in relation to the curriculum
Monitor teachers’ involvement and commitment in managing students with disabilities
Other reasonable tasks as required
