Responsible for alignment and clamping of line pipes accurately using internal line up clamp in the line-up station on the barge before the root pass welding
Principal Accountabilities:
Prepare internal line up clamps with the correct size of copper back-up shoes, pneumatic and electrical connection, buckle detector, X-ray stopper, etc. to suit the internal diameter of the pipes to be laid, prior to start of pipe laying.
Check the ovality and seam orientation of the pipes being aligned and instruct the line-up operator to orient and move the pipes to get an acceptable fit-up.
Align the two pipes in the line-up station using the internal line-up clamp to get the best fit-up and suitable for welding the root pass.
Carry out measurements of Hi-Lo around the pipe and report to the QC inspector.
Inspect the clamp and clean the copper backup shoes after every joint and change the copper backup shoes, as and when necessary.
Carry out routine preventive maintenance on the internal lineup clamp to keep it in good condition to avoid any breakdown.
Report any problems found during the inspection and operation of the clamp to the welding supervisor.
Take necessary action to avoid potential hazards.
Compliance with Company procedures and HSE standards.

Mainly working offshore

Report to the Welding Superintendent/Supervisor
Work independently under supervision
Communicate regularly with the supervisors and Barge Supervision
Liaise periodically with the offshore operation at base
