Summary of the role:

Performing Arts Technical Support Specialist, full time.


Reporting to:

Head of Performing Arts


Reporting to: Head of Performing Arts (with close liaison to Music and Drama staff)


Role Type: Full-time, with some evening and weekend commitments.


Department Overview

Music and Drama are taught from Key Stage 1 through to GCSE and IB, using specialist


teaching spaces equipped for recording, sound, lighting and digital effects. Alongside


curriculum learning, the school offers a thriving and diverse extra-curricular programme,


giving students and staff opportunities to explore creative interests beyond normal lesson


time. These projects bring different age groups together, strengthen the sense of


community within the school, and are regularly shared with families and friends.


Each term includes drama studio examination work and a range of extra-curricular


performances that require technical support. In addition to these, the school delivers


informal music concerts, recorded examination submissions and major whole-school


musical events. At times, the Music and Drama departments collaborate on large-scale


productions involving significant numbers of pupils.


From the earliest stages of their performing arts education, students learn to appreciate the


role of sound, lighting and digital design. Understanding how technical skills and equipment


support musicians, actors and live performance is a key element of the curriculum.


Main duties and



responsibilities:

A. Music Responsibilities


Record GCSE, IB and exam performances and compositions, managing secure file


storage.


Set up and support classroom music equipment across Primary and Secondary.


Provide full technical support for concerts, including sound balance, lighting,


projection and playback.


Attend and operate technical rehearsals for concerts and productions.


Support extracurricular ensembles (choir, orchestra, bands).


Support informal sharing events and Primary music assemblies.


Monitor equipment condition and submit maintenance/purchase requests.


B. Drama Responsibilities


Design, rig, programme and operate lighting, sound, projection and special effects


for exam pieces and productions.


Stage-manage rehearsals and performances.


Maintain drama studio lighting rigs, sound systems and control software.


Support Drama staff with administration related to productions and exam


preparation.


C. Whole-School Technical Support


Set up audio-visual requirements for assemblies, open days, school functions and


parent events.


Respond to technical requests using agreed communication channels.


Maintain inventories, storage, cabling and equipment logs, arranging repairs where


required.


Act as first-level support in Performing Arts requirements before escalating to


ICT/Facilities.


Ensure safe working environments (risk


assessments, ladder/rigging procedures, tagging and


compliance).


Manage personal time effectively, planning ahead for peak workloads.


Communicate proactively with line managers regarding scheduling and operational


issues.


Attend safeguarding and H&S training and apply policies consistently.


Check and respond to school email daily to remain updated on schedules and


requirements.


Any other duties commensurate with the scope of the role, as reasonably



assigned by the line manager to meet operational, event-based or timetable-



driven priorities.

Qualifications




Desirable: English and Mathematics qualification (GCSE or equivalent)
