Job Description

Candidates with DHA license or DHA Eligibility letter will be prioritized. To scan and provide preliminary reports for examinations in a variety of ultrasound studies, depending on experience and training. To undertake all ultrasound duties efficiently and to provide a highly specialised clinical service. To ensure that patients receive a high standard of care throughout all ultrasound specialties. To be able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the use of highly specialised ultrasound equipment. Work autonomously within guidelines, performing high quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to aid appropriate / necessary patient management. Effectively communicate information regarding diagnosis from scan findings either verbally or in writing directly to clinicians and/or patients. To use analytical and judgmental skills to interpret ultrasound images, accurately differentiating between normal and pathological findings. To be competent with the hospital\xe2\x80\x99s IT system to access appropriate demographic and clinical information on patients. Input all required and relevant clinical details onto the reporting module for all ultrasound examinations. Always maintain patient dignity, particularly whilst performing examinations of an intimate nature. To ensure that all equipment is free from damage and wear and tear by employing appropriate equipment handling. Provide timely, efficient, and courteous provision of radiographic services to the agreed standards of the department considering the physical, emotional and cultural needs of the patient. Perform duties without supervision. Assess and manage own workload of patients, communicate work priorities, organizing workload in conjunction with other team members. Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of imaging equipment, reporting faults to senior staff or directly to the manufacturer. To participate in the departmental rota, being flexible in responding to service needs. When necessary, assists colleagues and performs x-rays (after appropriate training is given and competency agreed). Act as an advocate to patients and staff thereby minimizing their exposure to radiation. Act as a Radiological Medical Practitioner under FANR-REG-24 and as an Operator under Radiation Regulations. As such you will assess the clinical justification of referrals to ensure that the benefit to the patient outweighs the radiation risk associated with the examination and refer to the radiologist for further information when needed. To work within, support and communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective use of the radiological service. Communicate with the referrer any changes to referrals after assessing the clinical information for an ultrasound or x-ray examination against local protocols. Communicate information relating to preparation and procedures to staff, patients and carers and ensure patients informed consent for examinations. Anticipate and interpret the patient\xe2\x80\x99s needs, defining the level of customer care required on an individual basis. To work with other radiographers and health care professionals to assist them with diagnostic examinations and other procedures. Ensure patients receive timely and accurate information about their examination, and ensure urgent findings are communicated in the appropriate way to referrers. To be aware of Valiant Clinic and departmental policies and procedures relevant to clinical practice and adhere to them. To observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff. Be responsible for ensuring the legal documentation on the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) associated with each completed patient episode. Ensure timely provision of images to referrers. To ensure appropriate infection control measures are utilized where necessary; paying attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment and linens contaminated by bodily fluids. Observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well\xe2\x80\x93being of one\xe2\x80\x99s self, work colleagues, visitors, and patients within the clinic, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post. To ensure the safe movement and transfer of patients and equipment, following manual handling guidelines and using risk assessment. Keep high standards of Health and Safety by correctly reporting faults, adverse clinical incidents and near misses according to the clinic policies. Deal with complaints in accordance with the clinic\xe2\x80\x99s complaints procedure. Actively participate in the departmental Quality Assurance and audit programmes. Contribute to practice development in reaction to the findings of audit and recent evidence. Responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues. To be responsible for individual CME and participate in the department\xe2\x80\x99s CME activities. Participate in both internal and external events as well as private study.
