Smart City applications are increasingly seen as supporting these commitments and we are looking to strengthen our regional strategy team with an experienced Smarty City Consultant to work within our multi-disciplinary set up in providing comprehensive advisory to our clients.

With our Think and Act Globally strategy, the consultant will get access to the vast pool of AECOM's industry respected experts across various countries and disciplines that contribute towards the formulation of data-driven 'Brilliant Cities'.

While the main areas of focus for this role will be to advance the portfolio of and deliver Smart City strategies, a specialisation in logistics or mobility will be an added advantage.

The Smart City Consultant will be required to support the sector leader in building the capabilities of the Strategy team in the UAE specifically, and the Middle East generally. He/ She would experience in consulting ideally with a background in Information Communication Technology (ICT), Mobility or Urban Development. Reporting to the Manger, this position requires the candidate to proactively identify, track, and win opportunities to support the overall growth of the Strategic Planning & Advisory Practice Line and the Civil Infrastructure Business Line.

The duties of the Consultant broadly include two categories. These are business Development and Technical Management.

Key duties are as follows.

Technical Management

Effectively lead the development of Smart City strategies in line with the vision and objectives of the study area and the client's core values.

Carry out result-driven benchmarking analyses of relevant technologies, use cases and best-practices. Develop operating models, governance strategies and carry out Cost-benefit analysis for smart city projects.

Be aware of and adhere to relevant legislation, codes of practice and regional policies when planning and directing the delivery of Smart City projects in the region

Continuously improve technical and industry knowledge by participating in forums and other industry related programs. Be aware of all phases of Smart City developments and digitalisation processes.

Be hands-on with analysing data preferably use Power BI, Microsoft Excel and other relevant tools.

Develop detailed methodologies together with technical leaders within AECOM and

Produce guides, case studies and deliver presentations

Coordinate with design teams to validate proposed strategies from an implementation view point.

Manage the preparation of client reports, bringing together the contributions from other specialist areas of the business

Review internal processes for effectiveness and efficiency and suggest possible areas for improvement where necessary

Actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.

Support team manager in mentoring to team members through constructive feedback and coaching as relevant.

Work towards becoming an AECOM approved Project Manager to successfully deliver tasks and projects within allocated budgets.

Other duties as required

Business Development

Ensure key strategic relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders are effectively developed, managed and maintained

Manage, lead and produce technical and financial bids for projects in the region and across other business lines

Ensure delivery is in line with the Business Line's corporate objectives, on time and within the agreed budget

Effectively represent AECOM to relevant government departments, external agencies and other bodies appropriate to the post

Plan, direct and deliver the Services in accordance with appropriate procedures and legislation

Maintain appropriate liaison with the business community, stakeholder and advisory groups

Maintain a watching brief on best working practices within and beyond local government, and ensure these are effectively communicated to the team

Liaise with other AECOM geographies to maximize the AECOM offering

Provide technical supervision and fulfil line management duty to junior staff

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors Degree Level Qualification or higher in a related field (mandatory)

Masters Degree (preferred)

Certification or degree in Smart City courses will be preferred.

Professional Accreditation

  • Member of one or more professional organisations as asset (e.g. Charted Institute of Engineering Technology)
