The candidate is responsible for overseeing and managing all laundry operations onboard a ship or within a marine laundry facility. This role ensures the efficient processing of laundry, adherence to hygiene and safety standards, and proper maintenance of laundry equipment. The Ship In-Charge supervises laundry staff, coordinates with ship management, and ensures timely delivery of clean linens and uniforms for crew and passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Laundry Operations Management:
- Supervise daily laundry operations, including washing, drying, ironing, folding, and sorting.
- Ensure all laundry is processed efficiently and meets quality standards.
- Monitor inventory of detergents, chemicals, and linens to avoid shortages.
2. Team Supervision:
- Lead and train laundry staff, assigning duties and ensuring productivity.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Maintain discipline and adherence to company policies.
3. Quality Control & Hygiene Standards:
- Ensure all laundry is cleaned, sanitized, and pressed according to regulations.
- Implement and enforce hygiene and safety protocols.
- Inspect finished laundry for stains, damages, or defects.
4. Equipment Maintenance:
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of laundry machines (washers, dryers, pressers).
- Report malfunctions and coordinate repairs with the engineering team.
5. Inventory & Record-Keeping:
- Maintain records of laundry processed, lost/damaged items, and stock levels.
- Coordinate with suppliers for laundry supplies as needed.
6. Coordination & Communication:
- Liaise with ship management, housekeeping, and other departments for laundry requirements.
- Handle guest or crew complaints regarding laundry services professionally.
7. Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with maritime and environmental regulations (wastewater, chemical disposal).
- Follow safety procedures to prevent accidents or injuries.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (additional certification in laundry/housekeeping is a plus).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in laundry operations,
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of laundry machinery and detergents.
- Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and time management.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long hours and lift heavy laundry loads.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills.
Working Conditions:
- May involve long working hours, including weekends and holidays.
