Wood is recruiting a Senior Wind Consultant to join our Renewables business in Abu Dhabi, supporting renewable energy, energy storage, and hybrid power projects across the Middle East.
Our Clean Energy Centre of Excellence operates globally, and we are expanding our presence in the UAE to support the region's ambitious energy transition goals. This role will be based in Abu Dhabi, with opportunities for regional travel and collaboration with global teams.

As a Senior Wind Consultant, you will be a technical expert with consulting or engineering background working on the delivery of advisory and owner's engineering services for utility-scale wind farms for lenders, investors, developers and asset owners. You will also be a technical point of reference for wind data analysis and pre-construction and operational energy yields.

  • Have 5-10 years of previous work experience in the wind industry in a consultancy, developer, investor or utility environment
  • Have meaningful experience working with hybrid Wind+BESS systems
  • Demonstrate strong technical writing skills, producing clear, cohesive, and client-ready reports
  • Thrive in multi-disciplinary team environments, collaborating effectively across engineering and commercial functions
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Mentor junior consultants and actively contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives within Wood

Responsibilities:
Typical Responsibilities
  • Lead wind projects, providing engineering inputs from initial assessment, through to technical and economic feasibility, development phase, technical due diligence, design optimisation, financing, construction monitoring, acceptance and operation monitoring
  • Lead or review independent wind resource and energy yield assessments
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, ensuring solutions meet project-specific constraints and regional standards
  • Prepare technical documentation: specifications, reports, proposals, and Employer's Requirements
  • Review project contracts and identify technical risks (PPAs, EPC, TSA, O&M agreements)
  • Provide technical input for R&D initiatives in wind
  • Conduct site visits across the Middle East and internationally
  • Support integration of wind farms with regional grids and infrastructure
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables while maintaining client relationships

Expected
  • MSc or Ph.D in Renewable Energy, Wind Energy, or a related engineering/scientific discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering/scientific discipline
  • Expert knowledge regarding technologies and products used in utility-scale wind farms, including turbine technology, balance of plant, and electrical integration
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting technical due diligence on infrastructure or renewable energy projects (commercial management, contract negotiation, contract management, permitting, procurement)
  • Experience leading technical workstreams or managing multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience engaging directly with clients, lenders, EPCs, OEMs, and project developers
  • Familiarity with international standards and guidelines relevant to wind farm design, performance and safety (e.g., IEC 61400-1, IEC 61400-12-1, IEC 61400-21, IEC 61400-24, IEC 61400-25, DNV-RP-C203, DNV-GL guidelines for wind energy)
  • Proven competence in reviewing wind turbine supply agreements, O&M contracts, warranties, and performance guarantees
  • Experience with wind energy modelling and forecasting with industry-standard tools (energy yield, performance analysis, degradation, revenue modelling, techno-economic optimization)
  • Understanding of technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency with wind modelling tools and resource platforms (e.g., WindPRO, WAsP, OpenWind, WindFarmer, Vortex, Wind Atlas, ERA5 / MERRA-2, 3Tier, Meteodyn WT / Meteodyn Universe)
  • Solid understanding of technical and commercial aspects of wind energy infrastructure projects, including interfaces with civil, electrical, and grid engineering
  • Previous project management experience, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, and client communication
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills in English, suitable for client-facing and lender-facing deliverables
  • Flexible and proactive approach to project delivery, with ability to work across multiple projects and deadlines
  • On-site working experience in utility-scale wind farms (construction, commissioning, or operational environments)
  • Right to work in the UAE (visa sponsorship available for international candidates)
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills in English
Desirable
  • Previous experience in technical consultancy, OEM engineering teams, or project development environments
  • Familiarity with technical inputs to financial models of wind farms (loss factors, availability, curtailment, degradation, uncertainty analysis)
  • Python programming experience for data analysis, automation, or modelling
  • Hands-on experience in development, construction, commissioning, and/or operation of utility-scale wind projects (stand-alone or hybridised)
  • Experience with wind testing and verification (FAT, FAC, grid compliance testing such as G99 or regional equivalents)
  • Experience in technical advisory roles for lenders, developers, or owners
  • Academic background or research in wind technology
  • Ability to speak Arabic or another language in addition to English (advantageous for regional projects)
  • Experience developing detailed design packages on professional software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
  • Knowledge on MV and HV substations, grid interconnection requirements, and grid-code compliance
  • Knowledge of SCADA system design, configuration, and data analysis (stand-alone or co-located)
  • Valid UAE driving license or willingness to obtain one
